Trustees at the Wrightson Allotments

Who are the trustees? Wrightson Allotments is a charitable trust run by a minimum of four trustees, but we currently have only three:. Derek Beer is our chairman. John Parker is our tree expert and is in the process of being made a signatory. James Thrift is a signatory. Susan Lacey put a huge amount of work into the trust for which we are enormously grateful. She left us in March 2016. The following help things tick over, but are not trustees:. Sue Adams-Lingwood is the secretary.

General meetings are held annually in March. Trustees April 14th 2016. A trustee only meeting was held at John Peel's. The AGM was on Thursday 3rd March 2016 at 7PM at Farnfields. Rents at the Wrightson Allotments

Allotments are in the year starting March 2016, priced £18. Per half allotment. Full allotments are priced proportionately. One of the allotments is divided into quarters, which again are priced proportionately. Our year typically starts in March and ends in February. Rents are announced at the beginning of a year for the following year. To be measured in "old money". Compared with allotments run by the council. The Shaftesbury Town Council. Advertises charges ranging from £10-£35.

We are budgeting total costs of £250. Per annum to cover insurance, water, a tree report (an insurance requirement) and works. Split 14 ways (for the 14 half allotments) that requires rents. To be set at £18. Per half allotment per annum. In 2014 and 2013 our costs have been greater than £250. But this was offset by a generous charitable donation. Donations to the Wrightson Allotments

We are endebted to individuals and organisations who have been generous in making donations to the trust. The Shaftesbury Charitable Trust. Donated £300 to help cover tree works. This covered the cost of our November 2013 tree report and has left us with a contribution towards some dead-wooding work. Allotment holder David Luck has been very kind to donate a 4-stroke petrol lawn mower to the allotments. This will greatly help to reduce our "extraordinary" costs. Which we were awarded for 2015.

Allotments at Bimport, Shaftesbury -. In December 1970, Jocelyn Wrightson bequeathed a parcel of land for use as allotments, at the corner where Bimport descends into St John's Hill. This extraordinary act of generosity left us with 14 half allotments with fabulous soil in the crown of our historic hilltop town. We are a charitable trust. For the most part, costs. Are covered by rents. Paid Over time, however, we have received generous financial assistance.
