write a postcard

Sunday, May 3, 2009. Words whose meanings are nothing like they sound like they would mean: fecund. It sounds.gross. Like it would be something vaguely decrepit, decaying. I was going to use it in relation to the end of a Zola novel. Then I realized that I was pretty sure it didn't mean what I thought it meant. You know, grossness. Maybe it's because it sounds like fecal? It almost rhymes with wanton and worsen (also gerund! It really means, according to the good ol' OED:. Who would have thought? And no,...

write a postcard: February 2009

http://www.writeapostcard.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html

Sunday, February 8, 2009. Monday, February 2, 2009. A piece of advice. I'm saying this because I keep seeing pictures of boys that are cute now and weren't before or vice versa and the only real difference is the hair. In fact, I have a friend who I have dubbed "handsome." He wasn't called that before; he got a decent haircut, and he is quite the ladies' man now. So dudes. For the ladies, for yourselves, listen to Steven Malkmus, and cut your hair. Anyways, this is a belated (typical! 7 Start going to th...

write a postcard: October 2008

http://www.writeapostcard.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html

Saturday, October 18, 2008. I've never really wanted to be famous, especially considering today's celebrity culture. However, in my internet wanderings, these old Sesame Street clips made me remember why I would like to be. How awesome would it be to be able to sing like this with a bunch of muppets, telling kids why the alphabet is fucking rad? Here's a couple for our road to fame:. Seriously. This is the real reason to get famous people. To be on Sesame Street, hanging out with Oscar the Grouch. Since ...

write a postcard: A question

http://www.writeapostcard.blogspot.com/2009/03/question.html

Tuesday, March 3, 2009. How does a person meet new people? Like boys. For making out. (And for the record, I'm not soliciting.). This being the case where does one meet new people? And no, I will not meet men over the internet. In Superbad, Seth Rogan and that other guy from SNL said to go to pumpkin patches and farmer's markets, but I don't like doing things during the day. Maybe I'll just move out west and chart some new territory. I may lose a bet, but at least I'll be in the sunshine.

write a postcard: November 2008

http://www.writeapostcard.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 12, 2008. I'm supposed to be at a birthday celebration right now, but I decided to claim migraine (true! And stay home and watch videos on the internet. Now, here we have a wonderful history lesson of American warfare from WWII onwards. Sadly, this is possibly the most comprehensive lesson I have ever received on the 20th century as:. 1 It is highly unlikely I will take a history course in my remaining time in college and. And here is a cheat sheet. Ways I waste time on the internet.

write a postcard: A RANT

http://www.writeapostcard.blogspot.com/2009/03/rant.html

Friday, March 27, 2009. Okay, seriously, what the fuck is up with books telling you the ending.ON THE BACK COVER. I read the back cover to get a general. Idea of what the book is about, not to find out the stupid fucking ending! The Oxford edition of Anna Karenina. Does this, as does the Penguin edition of Bellow's Ravelstein. Seriously, FUCK YOU publishers. And fire the morons that write the stupid back cover copy. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

No Value System: May 2008

May 19, 2008. CGYT on WHFR (3). Last night's Come Get Your Tomorrow (number 3, MP3 and playlist below) had a bit of an Asian theme. I've been reading The Last Samurai. By Helen Dewitt (the book has nothing to do with that movie with the midget from Top Gun. And there's lots in that about The Seven Samurai. And so I was also then listening to some Kurosawa soundtracks. Radio show no. 3 starts out with a Masaru Sato song from Sanjuro. CGYT on WHFR no. 3. Broadcast May 18th, 2008). Mdash;, "? January 26, 2008. Perfect Teeth 22.1.8. It's been quite a while since I posted to this blag. In my defense, I'll say that I had to write a masters thesis (it's done) and had other things on my plate. It's not that I didn't have the time to spend on it. I did. But that if I spent the time on it, I would have felt guilty for not spending the time on my thesis. Here's the first short one:. I taped the evening and transfered the cassettes to mp3s. Four sides. Approximately 3 1/2 hours of music. Tape 1 Side A.

March 12, 2009. I'm not really one for the youtube video posting, but I was really surprised when I stumbled across the video below. It took me 10 years to find an Aventuras de Kirlian record. I finally managed to get my hands on one of their singles. It's more awesome than I expected. Then I saw that there's a video on youtube. Posted by Dan Gr. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). July 16, 2010. I put the 45 rpm single of the Lalo Schifrin soundtrack to Che! Down on my record player, but forgot to switch to 45 rpm. I think it actually sounded better on 33 1/3 rpm. Listen. For yourself. Of course you'll want to compare it to the original, which can find on the internet, I'm sure. I haven't heard much Lalo Schifrin. Or well, I haven't listened. Theme song, as well as other notable tunes. This isn't one of them. You can find the Che! Posted by Dan Gr. Awesome Tapes from Africa.

No Value System: Knowledge is Power, Work is Worship

http://novaluesystem.blogspot.com/2010/07/what-doth-this-tambourine-say-listen.html

July 25, 2010. Knowledge is Power, Work is Worship. V/A — Coronation Issue: Selected Nepalese Folk Songs and Tunes. I found this record at a shop in Munich. It's a collection of "folk songs" and "folk tunes" from Nepal, issued by the Shree Ratna Recording Corporation in 1975. Ratna Records was (and may still be) the state run recording and releasing arm of the national Radio Nepal. The closest comparison I can think of is Bayon. The east-German/Cambodian 70s krautish group. Especially my favorite son...

May 12, 2008. CGYT on WHFR (2). Come Get Your Tomorrow week number two aired yesterday on WHFR. Currently on repeat: Pete Seeger's soundtrack to Indian Summer. Which is available on CD, I believe, from the ever-in-print Folk Ways (or at least soon available as download from the Smithsonain), which combines great folk melodies on Banjo and rustic flute with sounds from the film such as dynamiting and barn-burning. Archie Shepp's Live at the Pan-African Festival. Or is this one Get Back? Mdash;, "Lion,".

July 6, 2008. CGYT on WHFR (8). Last week's show was full of short songs, which is kinda taxing, since neither of my record players can cue. So this week I went with long songs. I hadn't exactly planned it to go that way, though. I was looking for something relaxing, and I was listening to 10,000 Maniacs (I know, but you really should hear their song "Tension") and thinking of the Julius Eastman compilation Unjust Malaise. CGYT on WHFR no. 8. Broadcast July 6th, 2008). Pauline Oliveros, "I of IV,". Is wh...

Write a Play

March 09, 2009. Andy Sheridan talks here about writing his Bruntwood Award Winning Play, Before the Echoes Die Away:. Why I wrote my play. As an actor I’ve been lucky enough to work with and get to know some of this country’s best and most influential playwrights.  . The alchemy they use to create a play has always fascinated me.  . What is that process of writing a play? I still see the boy riding his bike around where I live. Sending my play in. As I have said before I never set out to win this competi...
