Globe Artichoke | Write On The Rocks
https://writeontherocks.wordpress.com/2009/08/04/globe-artichoke
Write On The Rocks. Writing on the ledge. Submit to Write On The Rocks. Listen and I will fill your ears with truth. My green tipped spikes will test your fingers;. My leathery scales will rasp rough on your. Tongue. Even butter will not soothe me. The asparagus will fence me in, solemn. Poles ashamed of my audacity, the way. Layers of my rosette get shed like veils in. Our dance. What you desire of me is sparse. In proportion to what you will discard. Ardi shauk, ground thorn, artichoke:.
Return | Write On The Rocks
https://writeontherocks.wordpress.com/2009/04/05/return
Write On The Rocks. Writing on the ledge. Submit to Write On The Rocks. I look for reasons to leave. To return to where people are fleeing across the sea. And empty their pockets to cross in rickety boats. Can barely stay afloat. I dream of return. Finding myself in what was left behind. To sit quietly beside my grandfather’s grave. And plant mint to keep it fresh. And share the view with him. And tell him that his son had a daughter. Who always wanted to come back. She just didn’t know how.

Write On The Rocks. Writing on the ledge. Submit to Write On The Rocks. Archive for March, 2009. March 29, 2009. I remember you telling me. That you aren’t good. I thought. Of you making soup on my stove. When I had a fever and the way you didn’t listen. To the new Sigur Rós until you could hear it with me. I patched these moments. Together like quilt squares and blanketed myself. I studied them daily,. The same set of shadows, while you grew. Stony and silent. I still believed in you. Last week I stopped.

Periwinkle Punch: July 2009
http://periwinkle-punch.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Food and life by trial and error. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. The flavor called "delicious". How did I not know about this before? Of course we all know the four basic flavors: salt, sweet, sour, bitter. But it wasn't until I read the July/August issue of Experience Life. That I found out about the fifth flavor. It's called umami. Or, when most simply translated from Japanese: delicious. Wednesday, July 22, 2009. Which has left me with the following hanging over my head:. A head of red cabbage. Full disclo...
Periwinkle Punch: October 2009
http://periwinkle-punch.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Food and life by trial and error. Tuesday, October 13, 2009. Ok, here ya go. Writing this blog hasn't been as satisfying as I had hoped. When I'm cooking - which I'm still doing a lot of, by the way - I want to focus on the food. Documenting the process disrupts it for me, and makes it feel a bit like a chore. Goals in the coming year, I've taken these past few weeks to really weigh the value of the blog in relation to those goals. Sadly, I don't think it's stacking up. Actually, it means I'm doing great.
Periwinkle Punch: The Banana Graveyard, or, The King Has Left the Building
http://periwinkle-punch.blogspot.com/2009/08/banana-graveyard-or-king-has-left.html
Food and life by trial and error. Saturday, August 15, 2009. The Banana Graveyard, or, The King Has Left the Building. The idea came about because I had ten overripe bananas in my freezer. Ten. Ten is a lot of frozen bananas. Some might even say ten is an absurd number of frozen bananas. And what consistency will the icing turn to when left sitting in the sun all afternoon? Ok, no cupcakes. That's when I found it: peanut butter banana chocolate chip cookies. To bake them while listening to his music.
Periwinkle Punch: I have a list.
http://periwinkle-punch.blogspot.com/2009/08/i-have-list.html
Food and life by trial and error. Monday, August 3, 2009. I have a list. Ok, a lot of lists. I'm sort of a List Person, if you don't already know that about me. But the particular list I'm talking about contains food items that I currently buy in a processed, prepackaged state and that I want to start making from scratch. I've already checked a number of items off that list. To start with, there were the pickles. Actually, I'm not sure I've ever. Before work, I always start the day with a bowl of yogurt ...
Periwinkle Punch: Since March
http://periwinkle-punch.blogspot.com/2009/09/since-march.html
Food and life by trial and error. Tuesday, September 1, 2009. That's how long I've been looking forward to this particular CSA box. But this box, my friends, is my first once since tomatoes came into season. So Many. Tomatoes. And it also appears in her book, A Homemade Life. Just look at these gorgeous things. And now that there's a crisp fall chill in the air, the time is right to pop a pan of these in the oven, pull on your sweatpants, curl up with a good book, and take a peek every hour or so until t...
Periwinkle Punch: September 2009
http://periwinkle-punch.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Food and life by trial and error. Wednesday, September 9, 2009. I should probably warn you that this post is not going to have anything at all to do with food. I was going to write a post about all the refined sugar (and reptile meat) I consumed at the Minnesota State Fair, but that will have to wait. It'll have to wait because right now I have only one thing on my mind, and that one thing is this:. Bucket List Item #27, you are going down. I was hoping that these lessons might be a relatively quick fix,...
Periwinkle Punch: August 2009
http://periwinkle-punch.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Food and life by trial and error. Tuesday, August 25, 2009. An exchange of goods and services. When I was a little girl reading the Anne of Green Gables books, I fell head over heels in love with the idea of kindred spirits. At the time, I didn't actually realize all the different types of friendships a person can form over the years. But I still believe in those kindred spirits. They're the friends who wander into your life in some unassuming manner and then stay there, because somehow you find that...

Write on the Right
Write on the Right. Simple writings from a simple man. Friday, June 5, 2015. 1 Your current unit or duty station is like Texas weather; if you don't like it, just give it a bit and it will change. Duty stations, and even units at that duty station, are cyclic in how miserable or pleasant they are. This stems from the fact that the leadership of those units and bases changes on a regular basis. Be patient, and know that with new leadership often comes a fresh change of atmosphere. Hang on to it. You n...
