Ida Jones' Jottings: December 2014
http://idajonesjottings.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, 28 December 2014. Yesterday, some of our visitors had left and were well on their way home before a mixture of rain, sleet and snow fell in the evening until late. This morning dawned bright and clear and some of the snow melted - leaving garlands of snow on our glass roof. But it is very cold, minus 2 and 3 and the snow is turning icy and lingering on fields and hills. Roads have had some attention and main roads are mostly all right, but side roads still covered. Coots soon spy the bread. At Da...
Ida Jones' Jottings: September 2014
http://idajonesjottings.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 30 September 2014. La Fête patronale of the 11th-16th century church of St Maurice, Damvillers is scheduled for Sunday 28th September although St Maurice’ day is on Monday the 22nd. In the UK, more often than not on these occasions, one sees two elderly ladies sitting at a table in the porch to receive donations for the church, and, possibly, a flower festival on display inside the church. Nothing so genteel here! As a celebration, the fair comes to town with its stalls and rides. From our first...

Saturday, 28 June 2014. Friday evening, Saturday morning. As rain clouds build. The heat wave is about to splash. Fish spot insects and crash out. Rippling surfaces of lakes and river. Wheel and swoop -. They will not got hungry to bed. Drooping flowers will be erect. Come morning or bowed under a torrent. Wooden chimes clank and clatter in the rising wind. Leaves are torn from branches,. Scattered along roads and pavements. And cluster in gutters and cover drains. We hold our breath and wait. This after...

Monday, 3 August 2015. Sunday 2nd August - a clear, sunny day just right for the Arts Fete at Les Rainettes. This is the second time this private park has been open to the public to view the beautiful grounds and watch artists at work. The owner is a descendant of the local famous painter, Jules Bastien Lepage. In the 19th century, Jules set up his easel in his grandfather’s orchard - now the parkland called Les Rainettes. Ron admires a pineapple top (all the way from Birmingham! An old rustic bridge.

Friday, 24 April 2015. 24th April 2015 - a bright, warm afternoon. We are able to take advantage of what may be the last sunny day this week, as rain is forecast from very early tomorrow morning until mid-afternoon on Monday, and head for the riverside at Doulcon. Sunday, 31 August 2014. On the last Sunday in August the village of Gand-failly holds a special event, Les Jardinades. The main theme changes each year but focuses on produce from the garden - grown by seeds given to the gardeners by a local association - but also features a few crafts. A T-shape section of the village roads are closed, with a three-euro entry charge to pedestrians (park where you can nearby! To house the many fruit or flower decorations and stalls. Ida Jones' Jottings: May 2014
http://idajonesjottings.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Monday, 26 May 2014. Yesterday, Sunday - a warm, sunny afternoon - we visited ‘Le Ballestiere’ at Dun-sur-Meuse - a reclaimed gravel (ballast) pit that lies between the river Meuse and the canal and where the waters were making their way from Verdun towards Stenay. Along the left-hand side lies the reclaimed pit, now a pretty lake with picnic area and, across the river, contented cows in a lush meadow. A pretty and peaceful spot we shall certainly return to. Sunday, 18 May 2014. This part of Belgium is l...

Home of Nick Alimonos. Author. Philosopher. Naturist Advocate. Friday, August 14, 2015. Measuring Time on Aenya. Is he the first to rule the land, or a successor, coming after a long line of ancestors? I am convinced that an entire, unpublished novel is sitting somewhere in George R.R. Martin's desk, detailing events before A Game of Thrones. And on The Odyssey. When making crucial decisions. But what about time. Instead of hours, people on Aenya measure their day in. A passing is roughly 80 minutes, the...
