Lisa V | Write Side of the Road
https://writesideoftheroad.wordpress.com/author/lisavwriter
Write Side of the Road. Writing my way through motherhood. Author Archives: Lisa V. I received another rejection for my manuscript today. I’ve heard that’s supposed to be a good thing, that you should file your rejections away somewhere so that you can learn from them. But it still stings, and is very frustrating. Sometimes I wish there was a sort of dating website for literary agents. I wish I could place an ad, send it out to the literary universe, and then wait for the agents to find me. I know this i...

Write Side of the Road. Writing my way through motherhood. My Epilepsy Experience and being your own advocate. The doctors figure that the disorder started when I was only an infant. At 6 months old, I got meningitis, with an extremely high fever, and the doctors have assumed that there is probably some scar tissue on the brain that is causing the seizures, though none has ever shown up on an MRI (the scar tissue, not the brain – LOL). I approached my neurologist who sort of dismissed the idea, so I went...
A Tribute to Customer Service | Write Side of the Road

Write Side of the Road. Writing my way through motherhood. A Tribute to Customer Service. Anyone who works with the public in a customer-server relationship knows it can be trying at times, on both sides of the fence. I’d like to give a shout out to all of the customer service people who take their job seriously, and to let them know that their smile and ability to do their job effectively is appreciated. In a day and age where we push buttons to select the right option, where we dial by name instead of ...

Write Side of the Road. Writing my way through motherhood. New Year’s Resolution. I’ve read a lotand I mean A LOT of depressing blogs about how awful 2016 was. The theme seems to overwhelm the blogging world. And I get it: we had a political climate that divided us (and still continues to); we’ve had what seems to be a significant number of celebrity deaths, especially in the last few months; there have been tragedies, unfair accusations, and a whole lot of judging going on. But enough is enough! My fait...

Risky Business – Carly Voinski
https://carlyvoinski.com/2016/04/17/risky-business
April 17, 2016. April 17, 2016. I heard/read (I can’t remember) someone say that their church was doing something merely because it is what church visitors expect. As I finished reading through both Genesis and the Gospel of John, I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this comment. What church visitors expect. If church visitors expect church to be a certain way, maybe that’s why they’re visitors and not attenders. What if we did the unexpected? Would it get their attention? Posted in: Child of God.

What Got Me Here Will Get Me There. On life, what came before, and what comes next. Not Baby Related…. July 27, 2016. I had a thought today as yet another “you can’t complain about X because Y” article showed up in my newsfeed. In this age of social media it feels harder and harder to be a genuine version of yourself. There is so much pressure from others to be silent even though they are very, very loud. You know….be the change. Believe there is good. Support instead of condemn. Ut...People are doing th...

One woman's adventures in building a better life. My diet is pretty perfect right now (my own world view of course), and has been for a while. I gave it up over Lent. And that was absolutely fine. I had no trouble with not eating it at all. The worst bit is, I don’t even like it much anymore. I keep trying new types of chocolate because — well, I’m just not liking it. So rather than celebrating that I am free from the desire to eat chocolate — yippee! I don’t really want to eat chocolate. I don...Later o...

Today marks the day they will officially encourage labor, should it begin. Sprout is said to have reached early term and would likely not need NICU time if born today. We’re slowly putting the finishing touches on the nursery and the house. I’m hoping to do maternity pictures next weekend if all goes well, which will also double as our nursery reveal. Posted in 3rd trimester.

I love Jamie Oliver – Minute Particulars
https://minuteparticulars.com/2016/03/12/i-love-jamie-oliver
One woman's adventures in building a better life. I love Jamie Oliver. Really, I do. IRL, of course, I don’t know him from Adam, and I’m not the sort of person to actually approach him in any way should I see him browsing in a shop or anything. Making the chilli reminded me of how much I love Jamie Oliver. The recipe I used is really my own: it’s not Jamie’s recipe because I don’t eat beans these days (the low carb thing). But. It’s so salty and overwhelming! I could make tuna with salsa! March 12, 2016.

The Write Side of My Brain
The Write Side of My Brain. Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Missouri Primary and Important Proposition - - I Voted. With an expected turnout of only 24% of eligible voters, it is a typical primary election day. Honestly, now, do you vote in the primaries? Honestly, I rarely have, but I will never miss another one, or any election day, for that matter. Missouri is the first to confront the issue of the federal government requiring people to purchase health insurance or face penalties. A “yes” vote wi...A “...

Write Sides
Sunday, October 26, 2014. I wrote my first NASCAR article for the website Insider Racing News (IRN) 10 years ago this week in the aftermath of the Hendrick Motorsports plane crash tragedy, which had taken place a few days earlier during the Martinsville Cup race. Here is a reprint of that article. It was the beginning of my eight-year stint writing a weekly column at IRN, which I estimate totaled about 400 articles. What Can We Do To Help?
