Our silly old lives: Yummy Lentil Soup
http://oursillyoldlives.blogspot.com/2013/03/yummy-lentil-soup.html
Our silly old lives. It's just us. Silly people. Sunday, March 24, 2013. This recipe has been a staple in our house for the last few years. Typically I make a giant batch in the fall (harvest) season so I can use up fresh veggies from the garden and freeze them in usable form. Usually in the large recipe I substitute some grains in place of some of the lentils to provide different nutrients and different texture. 1 onion, chopped. 1/4 c olive oil. 2 carrots, diced. 2 stalks celery, chopped. 10 min before...

Our silly old lives: Chick Pea Love
http://oursillyoldlives.blogspot.com/2013/11/chick-pea-love.html
Our silly old lives. It's just us. Silly people. Wednesday, November 20, 2013. Advent is another vegan season for us. And as I get older the more I fall in love with "ethnic" foods. Such as Arabic, Indian and Mexican. There are many varieties in the spices that we don't have in American food and the more I eat it, the more it becomes comfort food. These are some staples with the traditional Chick Pea that are our favorites. I canned 14 pints of chick peas. 3 cans garbanzo beans. 2 1/2 Tbs lemon juice.

Our silly old lives: February 2015
http://oursillyoldlives.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Our silly old lives. It's just us. Silly people. Friday, February 27, 2015. Canning Beans My Way. This is NOT the proper canning method recommended by extension service or Ball Blue Book, but it is what I use. I presoak the beans in their individual jars the night before and I do not cook them for 30 minutes recommended time. This is much faster (for me) and gives me perfectly non-mushy beans (at least for the chick peas, my current favorite beans to can so I can make my hummus. Remove hot jars with jar ...

Our silly old lives: Our 40 day gift
http://oursillyoldlives.blogspot.com/2014/08/our-40-days.html
Our silly old lives. It's just us. Silly people. Sunday, August 31, 2014. Our 40 day gift. After having a baby it can feel as if your world is coming apart. Like you just can't handle things. And, well, frankly, we can't.and we shouldn't have to. Need to do and that was to rest and hold my baby. She reminded me that women basically turn back into teenagers, with all the crazy hormones that don't make sense, but with those hormones stays the responsibilities of being a wife, mother, homemaker, busines...

Our silly old lives: Cabbage Rolls
http://oursillyoldlives.blogspot.com/2014/08/cabbage-rolls.html
Our silly old lives. It's just us. Silly people. Sunday, August 31, 2014. The main reason for this post is to keep tabs on the cabbage rolls I made today. Also to show off my produce because it's so pretty and I love looking at it. The kids picked this on Friday for me. I made my Yum Lentil. And ate a bunch of celery with peanut butter, good celery! It's hard to see it but in the back right is a very large cabbage. My husband loves cabbage rolls and I wanted an easier recipe. I found this one. Its May an...
