Checkpoint: ER revision complete! | Writing Account

https://writingaccount.wordpress.com/2013/08/16/checkpoint-er-revision-complete

Checkpoint: ER chapter approved! Checkpoint: ER revision complete! August 16, 2013. I’ve been sitting on this chapter revision since mid-June. I finally figured out that I needed another writing retreat. Grandparents to the rescue! Next deadline: August 23–whole dissertation to advisor and editor for proofreading. I’m starting to slow down a little, so it might be time for a walk. Onward! One thought on “ Checkpoint: ER revision complete! August 17, 2013 at 6:01 am. Well done — the end is in sight! You a...

Scheduled! | Writing Account

https://writingaccount.wordpress.com/2013/09/25/scheduled

September 25, 2013. I’m finally scheduled! There is exactly one hour and fifteen minutes when all of my committee members are available during a given week. So we’re making the best of it. My third reader may have to leave early, but she shouldn’t miss much. So now I’ve bought plane tickets, booked hotels and rental cars, made arrangements to stay with friends, and asked for school work for the kids to take with us. I still have to make arrangements to miss things (soccer games, farmbox pickup). Blog at ...

Monthly Archives: July 2013. July 24, 2013. Write now. Procrastinate later. My old favorite was a Twain quote. 8220;Never put off till tomorrow what may be done day after tomorrow just as well.” So far that one hasn’t helped me finish my dissertation, so it’s in with the new. I’m officially done! | Writing Account

https://writingaccount.wordpress.com/2014/01/09/im-officially-done

I’m officially done! January 9, 2014. The following day, I met with my secondary advisor to have an informal mini-defense and to have him sign my signature page (which I then dropped off in my advisor’s box on my way to the airport, which he got signed, and which his assistant sent over to the graduate school). We had a good chat, helpful to me and to him, I think. I managed to stall out and neglect my final changes for over a month, but turned everything in by the deadline. In retrospect, I wish I h...

Checkpoint: Conclusion approved | Writing Account

https://writingaccount.wordpress.com/2013/09/11/checkpoint-conclusion-approved

Almost there . . . September 11, 2013. This morning I got notice from Primary that my conclusion was perfect (his word). So I made some copyediting changes and sent it off to Secondary this morning. I’m now for real, officially, all the way approved by Primary. I’m going to get to graduate! We’ve got some celebrating going on here at Chez Str! 4 thoughts on “ Checkpoint: Conclusion approved. Now, what was I doing?: Writing Group January-April 2013: Week 2

http://what-was-i-doing.blogspot.com/2013/01/writing-group-january-april-2013-week-2.html

Now, what was I doing? I ask myself (and anyone else who's within earshot) this question multiple times every day - my train of thought is easily derailed, and being an academic creates many opportunities for interruptions and distractions. Friday, January 11, 2013. Writing Group January-April 2013: Week 2. Hello everyone, I hope you've all had a productive first week of writing? The main ones seem to be:. This week discussing the non-writing parts of writing in the humanities? What do you prefer? Please...

A Good (Enough) Woman: Spring Break--Having a Plan

http://goodenoughwoman.blogspot.com/2014/04/spring-break-having-plan.html

A Good (Enough) Woman. The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire. Tuesday, April 22, 2014. Spring Break- Having a Plan. In order to get said stuff done, I figured I should have a plan, especially for the grading which I really want to ignore but cannot. Here is the basic plan that I came up with last Thursday:. Sunday evening: grade all quizzes. Monday during the day: grade paper revisions. Sunday at the end of break: the remainder. Do a lot each day. How has it been going, you ask? Im a morning ...

http://goodenoughwoman.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

A Good (Enough) Woman. The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire. Monday, February 24, 2014. Twice in one week! And then it hit me: I can just decide. So I got up, went back outside, sat on the bench and started putting on my shoes. "I'm going to the tide pools," I said. "I would love it someone wants to come with me. Oh, and anyone who stays home with Daddy won't be playing video games because it's a beautiful day. It's not a day for gaming.". Below: Beautiful purple sea urchins! I had a bit of ...

A Good (Enough) Woman: May 2013

http://goodenoughwoman.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

A Good (Enough) Woman. The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire. Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Finals are over, and I am firmly limiting service work this summer. I am still grading exams and essays this week, but really, who cares about that? Because summer, for me, means family time, for the most part, rather than extra time for the thesis. But since I have. Been chipping away in earning mornings, and since I will continue to do so during the summer, that panic is greatly reduced. A mother, wife, P...

A Long Way from the Source | A Kiwi Medievalist | Page 2

https://kiwimedievalist.wordpress.com/page/2

A Long Way from the Source. Newer posts →. So, last week I planned on reading a book for review, planning an article, and writing for my novel. None of that got done, as my new job was physically and mentally exhausting. However, I’m working on being less mentally wiped out at the end of the day this week, and also putting my article planning front and centre. Other writings can take a back seat this week. The question you might be asking, at this stage, is “Why are you telling me all this? The overall g...

Writing Involves Reading | A Long Way from the Source

https://kiwimedievalist.wordpress.com/2013/04/19/writing-involves-reading

A Long Way from the Source. Another one bites the dust. →. Once again, I realise that, in order to do any of the writing I need to do (either for courses, or for my ‘novel’) I need to read. How much do I need to read? The answer is always ‘more’. Also, note that I’m avoiding writing by writing about writing. Go me! This entry was posted in Reading. St catherine of siena. Waiting to teach | A Long Way from the Source

https://kiwimedievalist.wordpress.com/2014/04/07/waiting-to-teach

A Long Way from the Source. Quick Update →. So, another long-overdue update. All job opportunities fell through, until I had been enrolled at Teachers’ College for two weeks, by which time, I was quite enjoying myself, and so actually turned down a job which was offered. Tomorrow, I begin my first placement in a small high school, and I’m looking forward to seeing. I mean students, very much. There was a great presentation by @MissDtheTeacher. Quick Update | A Long Way from the Source

https://kiwimedievalist.wordpress.com/2016/05/11/quick-update

A Long Way from the Source. Book Club →. Oh, good grief! Medieval-wise, the school I am teaching at uses the Cambridge curriculum, which is not common in NZ. This means that Shakespeare is taught from at least Year 6, and I had. Much fun with my Year 8s and. Last year. And. With the Year 12s. But best of all, this year I am teaching. The Wife of Bath’s Prologue and Tale. So once again, Dear Reader (if you exist), I invite you to join me on a new journey, as I delve into the frustrating, yet fulfilling, w...

A Good (Enough) Woman: The Silver Lining of Leprechaun Traps

A Good (Enough) Woman. The perfect is the enemy of the good." - Voltaire. Tuesday, March 4, 2014. The Silver Lining of Leprechaun Traps. My daughter's only homework this week is to design and build a leprechaun trap. My first thought was, Gah. Not this again. It is due Friday, and she'll be working on it Monday-Thursday. One of her big wishes for the project is that she can build it with me. We have to make a bean bag now? Ive been listening to the Artemis Fowl books on tape, and now I cant help thinking...
