Writing for the Public. Skip to primary content. Writing for the Public is a writing-intensive course in Pitt’s Public and Professional Writing (PPW) Certificate Program. The course requires students to:. 1 Understand how public writing functions in government, nonprofit, and activist contexts. Students will analyze how discourse is both shaped by, and able to intervene in, immediate rhetorical situations as well as broader cultural and political contexts. 3 Compose sustained and directed arguments.
