Performance enhancement | Just words …

Just words …. A PhD in progress. Drafting, drafting, drafting … →. November 26, 2014. One of the things that I have discovered to get me through is music that I don’t have to curate. With my comfy noise-cancelling headphones, I started exploring Spotify and happened across the Intense Studying playlist. The premise is linked to the ‘Mozart Effect’. On spatio-temporal reasoning, which may or may not generalise to other activities. And other sport/exercise activities. You’ll recognise it). You are commenti...

Just words …. A PhD in progress. One bite at a time →. Drafting, drafting, drafting …. December 29, 2014. I’m gazing at the current draft of my methodology and methods chapter. I refuse to call it just ‘methodology’ because they are distinct things. And I will need to discuss both. A blend of plotter. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. One bite at a time →. Just words …. A PhD in progress. Drafting, drafting, drafting …. Anna Logue is Still My Friend →. One bite at a time. January 1, 2015. In the knowledge that I have to climb it. It is also uncharted territory, as I didn’t get to this point Last Time. It’s also the ‘home stretch’ because this is the only part I need to do now, write the damn thesis and submit it.*. How easy is it to slip into hyperbole …. Surely has to be some XP in here somewhere. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. One bite at a time.

Just words …. A PhD in progress. Newer posts →. Year Three, Day One. September 3, 2014. Goodness, time flies. How did this rock around so soon? In some ways I still feel like I am incredibly new at this, and yet being in my third year makes me more of a senior in this game. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but this morning the dominant feeling was ‘slightly stunned.’. Resubmitted it revised in response to peer review. Peer review … That makes me a scholarly peer! So I shall celebrate getting this far&#...

Not a Nobel Prize and That’s Okay | Just words …

Just words …. A PhD in progress. Anna Logue is Still My Friend. Doorways are for going through →. Not a Nobel Prize and That’s Okay. March 17, 2015. There’s a rather famous paper titled “It’s a PhD, not a Nobel Prize”. I understood that while I was doing my fieldwork. I wasn’t so prepared for the mess in writing. But it can be disconcerting to be confronted with mess when your image of research is that it’s all as tidy as the polished final product. 6 out of 8 in first draft. Anna Logue is Still My Friend.

Postgraduate Lives: June 2015

http://postgraduatelives.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 23, 2015. The journeys within the research journey: Making time for wellbeing. Some mornings it's easy to find inspiration to fuel my thinking. My cycle journey to university presents many of the same features each day, experienced a little differently. Loosing feeling in my hands and feet is not the most obvious contribution to a sense of wellbeing, but it sure helps me to appreciate my office once I get there. And some days, moving around on a bike is just tested to the limits. Do share p...

Friday, April 10, 2015. Seeing the signs - the switched-on analysis brain. I realised I had 'analysis brain' a few weekends ago as I was driving back from a day of interviewing participants. Being a Sunday afternoon, the offerings on National radio were more entertainment than current affairs, but something must have caught my attention. Perhaps it was the mention of Facebook? Currently I'm immersed in transcribing. I'm actively looking for themes instead of tripping over them. It's a laborious y...Profe...

Monday, July 20, 2015. Producing Snazzy Posters (in PowerPoint). Nevertheless, the beauty of creating a poster is that it forces you to condense your ideas into the space of a poster. Ultimately it may help you get that single thesis statement. In this post I am going to expand upon this to making posters in PowerPoint. This is what I have found works for me without any design skills or fancy stuff – take what you need and leave the rest. There are other options available, including using Inkscape. So wi...

Wednesday, April 27, 2016. I dont deserve to be here': One postgrad student's musings on imposter syndrome. Those old familiar feelings of inadequacy ramped up even more this year and begun to mess with my ability to get a good night's sleep. I would see Master of Education under the heading qualification in progress, there in black and white, and not be able to understand or believe it. Why hadn't I been found out yet? So what exactly is 'imposter syndrome'? Feeling like a fraud – the thought that...

Thursday, May 26, 2016. Community Post: Writing with a view. With Megan Anakin, Tracy Rogers, Kate McAnelly, Sylvia Robertson and Lara Sanderson. This community post is all about the writing: Where we write, when we write; the frustrating, wonderful, dizzying act of academic writing that connects all of us as postgrads. The Mighty Pencil:

Literacy in a Title I Classroom. Saturday, December 15, 2012. What can I say to my students? I cannot stop thinking about the families, teachers, students and all the townspeople of Newtown, CT. There can be no justice, no meaning made. Now the question that wakes me: What can I say to my students? How can I gently help him cope in class, beyond linking him with the appropriate trained psychologists and counselors outside of my classroom? How else would an ELA teacher proceed? Still, for tragic events th...
