Monty in Flower Garden. Monty Cartwright and wife Juliana live in the John's Landing community of Portland, Oregon. Now retired, he enjoys fly fishing, reading, masters track and field competition, and Tai Chi. Reflection is the underlying theme of this edition. Whether it be mirrored images of things, landscape, or rhetoric, its' meaning and interpretation is in the eyes of the beholder. Hopefully in the next section, a few words and several pictures will give the reader pause to ponder.

An older person walks past fields of poppies. Without a second glance,. No longer brings tears,. A child's laughter is ignored,. The repeat, repeat, repeat,. Of an old man's fable. Is hollow to aging ears,. There's a sense of transforming. From substance to vapor,. Invade the mind's sactuary,. Whimsical mental whirl winds. Form inner cataract landscapes,. I watch as friends and strangers. Crumble under dementia's weight,. All hang on the best they can. Only a downward spiral that keeps sucking.

Reflections gathered over the years. New Year, New Goal. January 19, 2013. Spider plant with a few green shoots on January 19, 2013. Last year I did some real soul searching and came to the realization that resolutions are stupid (I know a shock). And that even setting goals (all of which end up being pretty lofty) can be equally silly. I am a big picture sort of girl so resolutions and goals tend to be BIG. This time it involves a living being. A spider plant. Nearly dead spider plant on bathroom sill.
