South of France (2015). South of France (2008). Motocross & Enduro. South of France - 2015. Reprising the 2008 trip, four of us headed down to the South of France for a week of sun and tarmac. Approximately five minutes after setting off we realised that we were riding four of the most antisocial bikes possible, and wondered how on earth we’d survive seven days without some form of police attention and/or a noise abatement notice.

We were fortunate enough to head out to Morocco for the WildernessWheels.com anniversary tour Forest trip – four days of riding around in the mountains close to Azrou. Despite only being a short trip, the riding was exceptional.

Riding it is a great reminder of why motorcycles from the 1930s are best left in warm garages, leaking oil nostalgically into a pan like a slightly incontinent octogenarian in front of a log fire. HOWEVER – the riding was great, the scenery was staggering, and we came away with some superb experiences. But the bikes are still rubbish).

A quick 40-mile blast down the PanAmerican highway to Latacunga saw us checking into a hotel in the centre of the small colonial town just before lunch…the earliest yet! Our trusty bible, the Footprint Guide to South America, thoroughly recommended a picturesque ride/drive near Latacunga, so (sans panniers – faster bikes – woohoo! We rode/drove from Ballina to Coffs Harbour where we stayed with Bev and Don. Our GPS didn't have the right directions to get to their place, so Bev found us and led us to their home.
