About Thomas and Wilma Miller. In 1914, Louella Montgomery Miller, age 24, was expecting her fourth child. Ernest had been born in 1910, Dudley in 1911, Nettie in 1913, Nettie also died that same year. On the fourth of April Louella began to have contractions. A soldier's love letters to his wife and son. This site is dedicated to Thomas Jerome Miller, Sr. and Mary Wilma (Jopling) Miller. At the age of 31, Thomas was drafted into the U.S. Army. He was married and the father of a seventeen month old son, Thomas, Jr. (Tommy).Before leaving for the Army, Thomas and Wilma promised to write every day possible. Letters will appear on this site as they are scanned and transcribed in chronological order. Thomas writes often of his love and longing for Wilma and Tommy.
