A scrambled scribble of hodgepodge scraps, ragbag thoughts, an all-around mishmash about pens, inks, books and…well, whatever. Wednesday, July 29, 2015. Thoughts on a Famous Book. Hances are high that every writer likes to see his or her book singled out by the press for pre-publication notice. But on occasion the coming of a new book can be marred by too much attention from the press. Take the case of Harper Lee’s new book, Go Set a Watchman. As someone who considers To Kill a Mockingbird. Rejected with...

A scrambled scribble of hodgepodge scraps, ragbag thoughts, an all-around mishmash about pens, inks, books and…well, whatever. Thursday, May 21, 2015. The Times and Travails of Manny. Ot out of bed, poured a cup of coffee, added a splash of half and half and looked on unbelievingly as it instantly curdled. Not a good start to my Thursday morning and despite a Christian tongue I did let loose with a few loud “Damn! Titty-Titty, Damn Damns! 8230;…………. Life gets serious around here once in a while and there...

Karen Cooks: Scalloped Potatoes
http://ohboykarencooks.blogspot.com/2012/12/scalloped-potatoes.html
December 26, 2012. If you're looking for cheesy scalloped potatoes, go. But if you're looking for potatoes that are creamy and buttery with no cheese in sight, you're in the right place. I only made a quart-sized casserole because there were just three of us for dinner, but if you'd like to make a bigger quantity, that's simple, too! Just slice up the amount of potatoes that you want, layer them in an an appropriate sized casserole (the directions for layering are in the recipe) and you're good to go!

Ake an idea from Alfred Hitchcock—the one about looking in windows—stir in a moderate to heavy mix of paranoia, obsession, loneliness, drunkenness, lying, cheating and self pity, spice it up with a heavy dose of psychological twists, then write it all down. What do you end up with? Readers of The Girl on the Train. But don’...

The Three Rs of Cancer Remission~Recurrence~Resilience: WAIT FOR IT!!!
http://wwwremission-recurrence-resilience.blogspot.com/2013/10/wait-for-it.html
The Three Rs of Cancer Remission Recurrence Resilience. Here we choose to laugh, live, and survive! Thursday, October 24, 2013. I know I have been an advocate for keeping a journal – and I still am. It has proved useful over and over during these past 5 years. Looking back, though, I find that I usually refer to it after a remission and recurrence of the disease to refresh my memory of the chemo effects to come and how best to deal with them. This new “chronic” status has thrown me. Just bear with me ...

A weekly column since 2005. A little too much Facetime. October 19, 2015. December 13, 2016. Do NOT come in here! I yelled, trying to project as much authority as a person can project whilst sitting on the potty. The shadows of my son’s feet paused at the crack under the bathroom door, and I tensed myself, getting ready to pounce across the room in case the door needed, as doors sometimes do, to be slammed shut. WHY CAN’T I COME IN? HEY, WHY DID YOU JUST START CRYING? Wait, you got digits today? Technolo...
