Making inquiry into things that make me (and possibly others) tick. Sunday, August 21, 2011. Serendipity and Comics: Teen Titans Lost Annual #1, A New Historicist Perspective. And There Will Be Blood. Were two of the most popular films at the end of the middle point of the decade! Talk about a darkness). And the whole comics industry seemed to still be in the shadow of the realistic, violent, and gritty stories and characterizations that had emerged almost twenty years previously. The second moment came ...

Making inquiry into things that make me (and possibly others) tick. Sunday, May 29, 2011. Slice of life narrative and S.H.I.E.L.D. Last night, we viewed the Coen Bros. 1998 film "The Big Lebowski", as part of our year long resolution to re-visit the work of filmmakers whom influenced how we watch movies (and how they can just be fun! I will post on Twitter about time and date later this week. Recently, I began reading the work of Jonathan Hickman ( www.pronea.com. Friday, May 27, 2011. As usual, writing ...

Making inquiry into things that make me (and possibly others) tick. Friday, April 4, 2014. Thinking About Boredom: David Foster Wallace's The Pale King. It took me a long time to read The Pale King. Not because of the length or the way sometimes life makes you start and stop certain things. I wouldn't read The Pale King. So years pass, and every now and then The Pale King. What if I can't ever get my life started again? This got me to thinking about Wallace's fictional work again, the way I always enjoye...

Making inquiry into things that make me (and possibly others) tick. Monday, September 12, 2011. Osamu Tezuka's Apollo's Song and Existential Entrapment. A Little Late To The Game. As someone who enjoys comics and all the wonderful genres that they offer, I never quite got on board with reading Manga. This was not due to availability, in fact, Manga availability has long been more at my disposal where I have traveled than any other genre in comics. So why the hold up? Why This Is A Good Thing. But what ma...

Making inquiry into things that make me (and possibly others) tick. Sunday, October 30, 2011. Analyzing Chapter Two of Thompson's Habibi: Veils Of Darkenss. In transitioning from chapter one, I believe Thompson begins to explore the idea of motherly connection and female identity in the presented culture/society in chapter 2. Is this chapter about establishing a woman finding her independent, inner/spiritual strength? How does the art hold up? I look forward to the next chapter, and await those surprises.

Making inquiry into things that make me (and possibly others) tick. Saturday, May 5, 2012. Why go to the shop? Perhaps I just don't pay attention that much, but today I noticed something I had not in the last few years in attending free comic book day at my local shop (LCS). It wasn't that the shop was full, that is a given on the busiest shopping day of the year for comics, rather, the place was full of happy, smiling, laughing, talking people,. Mixed in age, gender and ethnicity . Why go to the shop?
