Monday, January 19, 2009. Saturday Morning Sugar Rush. The kids love this place because of the decor (and the donuts, of course). There are flying cows and pigs hanging from the ceiling, and a vibrant green monkey that screams and dances if you squeeze his hand. All five of us are completely satisfied (Mary Wren possibly too satisfied) for under $7. You can't beat that! I took pictures on Saturday:. Just getting started . . . Getting into a rhythm . . . Full blown sugar rush! Kids on the slide. It was a ...

Join Carol Henderson to exchange ideas about writing. Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Forget what you learned in high school English. Like everybody else, I had plenty of topic-sentence obsessed English teachers and I've had plenty of students who have trouble breaking out of dreary opening beats. To "This American Life" genius Ira Glass show how to drop that bad beginning and get to the guts of good story telling. I found this on Jane Friedman's newsletter. Check it out. A tiny journal containing thoughts about Orthodox Christianity, recipes, handmade projects and whatever else comes along the way. Tuesday, January 4, 2011. New year, Old traditions. This was my first Southern Christmas, and well, it was delightful. Partly because of sweet Susan Cushman. Let me introduce to you Orange Rolls. My Grandmother...

The Object of Writing is to Grow a Personality Which in the End Allows One to Transcend Art — Lawrence Durrell. Recently I was answering questions in an e-mail magazine interview, and came to this one:. What do you hope to accomplish with your books? Quite possibly I was legally deceased for two or three seconds. My mind was spinning:. I realized I’d end up showing Miss Toe-Sc...

Haven Kimmel’s Blog. All men should strive to learn before they die what they are running from, and to, and why. — James Thurber. Judging a Book By Its Face. Last night Scott got some sort of dinging alarm or cupcake or a ficus tree, or maybe was inappropriately tickled by a drunk uncle, something, on Facebook, and said he’d been asked to name the 15 albums that changed his life.
