DPC Freeman Patterson Team Blog. Monday, August 29, 2005. Exercise 4. Foresight and Abstracting (together! Take a cup and saucer. Study all its features, and tonality. How it makes you feel. What concepts it represents. Take notes on what you find interesting, and what impressions it makes on you. Now, think about how you might abstract and convey the features that you've noted. Plan it out carefully. Sketching out your planned abstract is one idea for practicing foresight in this framework. Part 2. ...

Tuesday, August 16, 2005. Exercise 2, walk out door, 7 step radius, etc. etc. These photos are half of the ones i took out my back door. It was a more challenging exercise for me because my back yard isn't all that intrinsicly beautiful, so I had to look for more interesting subjects, angles, etc. But I've always enjoyed shooting ordinary objects in an unusual way that makes them stand out. Thanks for any comments, especially if you could let me know which one(s) you like and why, if any. The second shot...

DPC Freeman Patterson Workshop (Falc). Tuesday, August 16, 2005. OK this is an attempt to come close to the FP images in p151,152 and 153 in the book. The spiders web shots for me are just soooo impressive. I love the way the droplets come in and out of focus, together with the bokeh of a fine lens. Awesome. The webs out in the peak district appear to be much larger and more robust than those in the garden, and they are very much more accessible. Posted by Falc at 9:07 pm. Thursday, August 04, 2005.

DPC Freeman Patterson Workshop (Falc). Sunday, July 31, 2005. Today was really about getting my entry for the 'long exposures' challenge, but its also given me the chance to continue practicing the 'experimental' images. The first of my experiments was to put the main target on the left hand edge of the frame. I think this works because of the complementary sunflower heads which fill the rest of the image. Posted by Falc at 9:52 pm. Saturday, July 30, 2005. With the rule about main subject and focus, as ...

DPC Freeman Patterson Workshop (nshapiro). This blog represents my participation in the DPC Freeman Patterson Workshop. The images all reflect the exercises and experiments we are doing as a group from the book. Wednesday, August 10, 2005. Exercise 3. Get Inspired. The photograph that inspires me the most in FP PandAOS (though they are all inspiring) is the shot on Page 18. Wow! It really has a wonderful impressionistic feel while being soudly grounded in "regular" photography. Posted by Neil at 1:06 PM.
