And So On: August 2014
http://ryanbeggar.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 31, 2014. Back to the Ithaca. I'm back in Ithaca, preparing to move into our new house. It's been an insane year, but a fun one. I can't wait to get rolling in our upstate NY life once again. Once I'm settled, this sporadic blog will return. Perhaps to be less sporadic for a short time! On an unrelated note, today is Charles Reznikoff's birthday. Enjoy his poem! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). You might like these. Dr Seuss: Insane Or Evil? Poetry, Pain, and Lesson Plans. And So On: September 2014

Friday, September 26, 2014. Aspirational Heroes and Super-People Stories. I think a lot about Superman. The big guy. The classic cape. Superman is a great image. He's really difficult to get a handle on, while being remarkably simple. Superman, famously created by two small, awkward, and Jewish young men. Superman, who has been decried for decades for being dull, "goody goody," and one-dimensional. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). You might like these. Dr Seuss: Insane Or Evil? And So On: Poets Wha Hae

Tuesday, July 8, 2014. Rabbie Burns looking dandy and Scots. Logic as a formal discipline is important, don't get me wrong. Understanding mathematical logic is a great task, and I enjoy a good discourse on deductive, abductive and inductive logics as much as the next person. But poetry is a logic of words. When the arts and humanities no longer deal with questions of value,of what constitutes a life worth living, what? July 9, 2014 at 11:26 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). You might like these.

And So On: Dr. Seuss: Insane Or Evil?
http://ryanbeggar.blogspot.com/2009/04/dr-seuss-insane-or-evil.html
Wednesday, April 8, 2009. Dr Seuss: Insane Or Evil? The Cat in the Hat is often talked about as being an odd choice for a child's story. The home invasion of a feline as the basis for whimsy? After coming in and wrecking the place, and ignoring the sensible advice of the fish, he introduces two strange and frightening clown monsters to the kids. Called "Things," which is ominous enough. Even as a kid this bothered me. What are they really? Why do they not have names? Please make them stop flying the kites.

And So On: Sufi Poems: Eight
http://ryanbeggar.blogspot.com/2010/01/sufi-poems-eight.html
Friday, January 8, 2010. I haven't done a post about Sufi poetry for a while. I haven't had anything especially interesting to say, perhaps, or maybe I just got a little tired and lost writing about myself. I'm inspired today to write about a couple of Hafez verses, however, in a large part because of recent late night discussions with Jaime. The small man build cages for everyone he knows. While the sage,. Who has to duck his head. When the moon is low,. Keeps dropping keys all night long. As someone wi...

http://ryanbeggar.blogspot.com/2009/02/i-dare-you-to-do-better.html
Monday, February 2, 2009. I Dare You To Do Better. That's just what I would say to the director after showing him the last movie. McCoy with a flask, Kirk fighting, Sulu doing some space sword fighting. I think this will be pretty awesome. At 16 seconds, there is a shot of the new Enterprise. Doesn't look CGI'd all to hell. I like it. More McCoy. My favorite character of the original series - I'm so stoked to see him being awesome here. February 2, 2009 at 6:37 PM. February 2, 2009 at 9:27 PM. As someone...
