Addicted to Honey: May 2010
http://addictedtohoney.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
A humble approach to natural and sustainable beekeeping. Tuesday, 18 May 2010. Yesterday I was a bit worried; only a few days after the big move. Temperatures barely climbing above 10°C and stores running low in one hive in particular. But today the temperature rose to almost 20°C and all of the hives were very busy. In one of the hives, the queen is reportedly 'pure' Carniolan while in the other two hives the queens were Carniolan one or two generations ago but are nowadays more yellowish. Removing the ...

A humble approach to natural and sustainable beekeeping. Friday, 7 May 2010. D-Day (or Bee-Day) confirmed. This is it. After years of dreaming I got an offer I just couldn't resist or ignore. I have bought two colonies complete with bees, hives and all. I will be collecting them in a week, on Thursday May 13 (or possibly Friday May 14). The only minor drawback is that the bees are located some 250 km away; but looking at the bright side a road trip might be a splendid start to our relationship.

Addicted to Honey: Girls Brought Home
http://addictedtohoney.blogspot.com/2010/05/girls-brought-home.html
A humble approach to natural and sustainable beekeeping. Sunday, 16 May 2010. After a 5 hour drive (single way), the girls and I arrived at their new home around 7pm. We had some luck with the weather: cold and rainy which allowed for closing up the hives at lunch instead of waiting for the evening. A friend of mine (the son of the old beekeeper we collected the bees at) and my younger brother helped me carry the 3 hives the last 20 meters or so. The hives are trågkupor. The top cover is made of bars of ...
