太古の昔から，われわれヒトの祖先はたいてい， 色や形 といった 視覚情報 を頼りにすることで，食べ物を求め，危険を察知し回避して，命をつなぎ，生きてきました そこから果てしないような時間の流れを経た今も，やはり私たち人間は，かなりの部分を視覚情報に頼って生活しているのです. これらの視覚情報は，365日私たちの周りを360度ぐるりと取り囲んでいます そして，温かそうだ 柔らかそうだ 冷たそうだ 美味しそうだなどと，喜ばせたり，悲しい気持ちにさせたり，危険だ 安全だ 気持ち良さそうだ，などと重要なメッセージを届けてくれます. しかしながら，現代と昔で決定的に違っていることがあります それは，感覚的であった視覚情報の影響を，科学的に分析し定量化することができるようになったという点です 実際に色や形，照明の変化は，私たちの体に生理的に影響を与えるだけでなく，心情の変化ももたらします ですから，我々が色や形，さらに照明についての物理特性およびその影響を充分に理解することで，ファッションやメイク，プリクラや携帯画像のような身近なものへの応用はもちろん，遠距離間での正確な画像情報の共有へと役立てることも可能でしょう.
