sunstruck: Indian consumers voice concerns over GM food
http://runawaysun.blogspot.com/2011/03/indian-consumers-voice-concerns-over-gm.html
A worldview with a view of the world. Indian consumers voice concerns over GM food. What with cricket, scams and forthcoming state elections ruling the headlines, the debate over introducing genetically-modified (GM) food/crops in India is almost forgotten. Is that a good thing? Depends on which side you’re on. BRAI is expected to act as the sole agency responsible for the regulatory system, including research, transport, import, manufacture and the use of GM crops in India.]. The meeting was organised b...

sunstruck: What's new
http://runawaysun.blogspot.com/2010/04/whats-new.html
A worldview with a view of the world. I hear people declare these days, “consumers trust products and brand recommendations from people they know” (or words to this effect), as if it’s some kind of revelation. But, hasn’t this always been the case? Haven’t people always consulted their family, friends, neighbours and colleagues for advice and recommendations on products and services they intended to buy and use? What’s new about that? I'm reading: What's new. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

A worldview with a view of the world. The use of fear as a weapon is nothing new. Not just in war or by totalitarian governments upon their people or by the mafia or by landlords over farmers and peasants in agrarian societies like India, but even in cases as simple as parents disciplining their children or children bullying other children. In short, the belief that the use of fear and violence is for good. This is where I see the greatest evil. Evil in their blood. Although we tend to single out Adolf H...

A worldview with a view of the world. District 9 busts the myth of good and evil. This year, from an unexpected quarter of the world, comes a film that takes head-on, and then shatters, the myth of good and evil. That film is District 9. And it comes from South Africa. What’s more surprising is that District 9. Although disturbing to watch and, in places, heart-wrenchingly emotional, this is where District 9. End up believing that being human is, perhaps, not such a good thing after all. In war, if there...

sunstruck: Surviving the 21st century
http://runawaysun.blogspot.com/2011/02/surviving-21st-century.html
A worldview with a view of the world. Surviving the 21st century. The impact of the internet, the mobilephone and air travel is beyond doubt. Technology has indeed changed our lives: helping us to connect with our family and friends, to conduct business speedily, to have access to education and healthcare which were beyond our reach earlier. What this means is that technology has liberated us to an unimaginable degree. Now we can hear what’s going on, and be heard, in all corners of the world. This is no...

A worldview with a view of the world. For the world has changed. 8220;That we are in the midst of crisis is now well understood. Our nation is at war against a far-reaching network of violence and hatred. Our economy is badly weakened, a consequence of greed and irresponsibility on the part of some, but also our collective failure to make hard choices and prepare the nation for a new age.”. Could the situation be any worse? Well, in President Obama’s words:. 8220;To the Muslim world, we seek a new way fo...

A worldview with a view of the world. Shaken, not blurred. Not only can terrorism lead to economic uncertainty, in a roundabout way, political, social and economic uncertainties – and, therefore, discontent – can give rise to terrorism. Some of this notion can brew and grow as movements of national liberation as well. The French and Russian revolutions are a case in point; not to mention the continuing insurgency in rural India by Maoist Naxalites. Like many others, we, too, have believed in national lib...

A worldview with a view of the world. The farmer’s plight. The Indian farmer’s life is in danger. Not just now, but it has been so for a couple of hundred years. You see, there’s a history – a legacy you could say – to the farmer’s plight. It has been, and still is, a sort of built-in or inherent risk to the farmer’s profession and life. and future. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The farmer’s plight. Ever since I can remember, I’ve been an explorer. Not an explorer of places like Columbus; but a s...

A worldview with a view of the world. More than anything else, 2009, for me, was the year in which my life was overwhelmed by social media (my own project for children included in it), Jacqueline Novogratz’ book The Blue Sweater. The UN Conference on Climate Change in Copenhagen, and two films: Neil Blomkamp’s District 9. And James Cameron’s Avatar. Does 2010 promise something more? I don’t know. But, for now, I have my favourite things to build my life on. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
