The woods are lovely, dark, and deep: December 2011
http://grannynola.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. Wednesday, December 7, 2011. I bet you can't buy bear spray at your local grocery store. The current shoe pile beside my front door is a good sign. The ice covered windows by my head when I woke up a few days ago were a bad sign. Gardiner, tucked in the shadow of the mountains this morning after seminary. Later today, I was leaving the laundromat when a sign caught my eye. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I have come home at last! This is my real country!

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep: February 2012
http://grannynola.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. Sunday, February 12, 2012. Did I Miss Something? During my last year at the university (nearly six years ago) I couldn't leave my carrel without running into someone I knew; now I float anonymous in a sea of students. I'm in a place where girls leave their backpacks sitting outside their stall in the bathroom rather than take them into the tiny stall. They trust that no one will take their backpack with their shiny Apple computer inside. There's a piano in a big, ope...

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep: "No change of heart, a change in me."
http://grannynola.blogspot.com/2012/01/no-change-of-heart-change-in-me.html
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. Friday, January 20, 2012. No change of heart, a change in me.". It was such a cold night I didn't sleep well. But perhaps it had nothing to do with the cold. I drove away from Gardiner a few hours later. I watched the Arch grow smaller and smaller in my review mirror until it disappeared entirely. That was almost a month ago and I've sorted through my feelings since then and am left with three thoughts, none of which are mine originally. Love is a place. This is beau...

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep: May 2011
http://grannynola.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. Monday, May 23, 2011. If you dance you'll never grow old.". There was a time in my life when the world revolved around dance. Not because I was particularly good at it. The technique of dance was anything but natural. Becoming a part of my university's beginning team took three years of training prior to beginning college, nine college classes in dance, and three auditions. But the love of moving and music was much, much easier. Monday, May 16, 2011. I belong here...

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep: October 2011
http://grannynola.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. Thursday, October 27, 2011. I wish you were here as the first rays of light break over the eastern horizon and bright beams hit Electric Peak. The peaks are all dusted, or perhaps frosted, with snow. The golden beams turn the distant snow into prisms of light reflecting a rainbow of colors into the morning. We would push our hands deeper into our pockets and wonder when winter will reach the valleys. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I have come home at last! I belong here...

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep: July 2011
http://grannynola.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. Tuesday, July 26, 2011. What is your perfect day? It's the kind of question I never know how to answer. What kind of fabulous combination of people and adventures makes up a perfect day? It depends on where and when you're at. Over the 4th of July I had not just a perfect day, but also the best Independence Day holiday I've ever had. I didn't even stop to take a picture of any of it because I couldn't bear to let a viewfinder get in between me and the moment. Google ...

The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. Thursday, September 22, 2011. Love at First Sight. Derek takes care of my car. For me, I appreciate that he keeps me in the loop in this relationship. Derek often stops by my work, where he's also responsible for our fleet of vehicles. Without fail, he pokes his head into my office with a smile and asks, "How's your car running? The woods are lovely, dark, and deep: Do You Hear What I Hear?
http://grannynola.blogspot.com/2011/11/do-you-hear-what-i-hear.html
The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. Thursday, November 17, 2011. Do You Hear What I Hear? Time passed and meant nothing to the trees and me- we all stood tall while carrying our burdens. A flock of small, dark birds swirled overhead like leaves in a breeze. Alone in the woods with the day drawing to a close, I turned my skis back down the trail, and left with the winds secrets still ringing in my ears. Source: Aldo Leopold, Sand County Almanac.
