http://physicsinalaska.blogspot.com/2011/11/happy-late-thanksgiving-and-pics-from.html
Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska. Sunday, November 27, 2011. And pics from home. Thought I'd share a picture of our nice clean home on Thanksgiving morning too. That's Otis trying to figure out what to do with himself. I have three weeks left of classes and finals and then Kate and I are New Hampshire bound for the holidays. It's a little scary since we haven't left Alaska since August 2010. I think this is the longest period of time I've ever spent in one state. Posted by Lee Petersen. Fairb...

Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska: Vacation from Fairbanks
http://physicsinalaska.blogspot.com/2011/08/vacation-from-fairbanks.html
Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska. Sunday, August 7, 2011. After a week in Fairbanks with Kate's parents, Dave and Sandi, the four of us took off in a southern direction to experience a different side of Alaska. The first day was a drive to Glenallen, a small town on the Glenn Highway just off of the Richardson Highway. Kate and I had already made most of this part of the drive down the Richardson on our first anniversary. Looking toward Rainbow Ridge from the silty Delta River on a cloudy day.

Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska. Tuesday, November 1, 2011. Sorry it has been a while since my last post. Work and school have been busier than ever. I hope that in a couple weeks it will start to slack off a bit, since I'll be mostly done with one of my classes for the semester. Besides work, not much has been happening, so you're not missing anything by my lack of posts. Here is the biggest update in picture form:. Posted by Lee Petersen. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska: Oops, we went to Denali again
http://physicsinalaska.blogspot.com/2011/09/oops-we-went-to-denali-again.html
Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska. Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Oops, we went to Denali again. It's getting harder to stay away because the park is so incredibly awesome. Of course, September is here which means its full on fall foliage season for most of the interior of Alaska. Some places we've been to are already past peak. Luckily the park encompasses a lot of different climate zones, so you don't have to go far to find the fall colors. The Savage River basin and surrounding peaks. Of cours...

Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska: Fingers crossed
http://physicsinalaska.blogspot.com/2011/09/fingers-crossed.html
Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska. Monday, September 26, 2011. Let's have a clear night tonight! Now: Kp= 8 severe. 24-hr max: Kp= 8 severe. The K-index is out of 9). Sadly we may not get to see much in Fairbanks, but the lower 48 should get a show. Typically when the K index is real high we get more diffuse aurora and only short bursts of the good stuff. We'll see what happens! You can check the latest forecast here: Aurora Forecast. Posted by Lee Petersen. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska: Ode to the cold
http://physicsinalaska.blogspot.com/2011/11/ode-to-cold.html
Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska. Monday, November 14, 2011. Ode to the cold. It is -14° F right now as I'm writing this; two degrees less than when I woke up this morning. Since the beginning of October we have slowly crept up to about 10 inches of snow, the temperature hasn't gone above freezing for almost a month, and we now have 40 below in the immediate forecast. In fact, there is not one day in the week forecast above 0° F. Hooray! Posted by Lee Petersen. To Do In Fairbanks.

Studying Physics and Enjoying Life in Alaska. Wednesday, November 16, 2011. When the weather outside is . . . I woke up this morning and went to the outhouse; it was pretty freaking cold outside. Cold and dark. The Sun is only out for a little over six hours today (rise at 9:29 am and sets at 3:41 pm). More importantly, it is cold! This picture was taken from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks up on the hill near the entrance to the ski trails. The optical effect here is called a light pillar caused...
