Island Time on Yellow. Friday, January 11, 2013. Table manners of bald eagles on the Nooksack River. Last week friends Traci Walters and Chris Teren were photographing eagles on the Nooksack River and discovered a leucistic eagle. I decided it was a worth a trip up river to see if i could find and photograph it too. One adult eagle, with great effort, pulled the carcass on a log. Island Time on Yellow: July 2012

http://www.yellowislandtime.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Island Time on Yellow. Natural history notes from Yellow Island and the surrounding area. Sunday, July 15, 2012. Life Down Under: Eelgrass Meadows. One of my favorite leisure activities is scuba diving. The nearshore of Yellow is dominated by eelgrass, Zostera marina. On nearly all dives I just swim through the eelgrass to get to deeper water. Yet Zostera. Meadows are extremely productive. Eugene Kozloff's book Seashore Life of the Northern Pacific Coast. Almost all blades of Zostera. Open wide for chow!

Island Time on Yellow. Natural history notes from Yellow Island and the surrounding area. Saturday, December 1, 2012. Pacific white-sided dolphins in San Juan Channel. People have all sorts of top five lists. Being a wildlife watcher, I have a top five wildlife experiences. I would never have guessed on a rainy afternoon in late November here in the San Juan Islands I would have a top five experience. Riding the bow wake. I decided to put the camera down and just enjoy the experience. After 15 minute...

The San Juan Islands: A Sense of Place: On Becoming An Oak Knower

The San Juan Islands: A Sense of Place. Thursday, December 1, 2011. On Becoming An Oak Knower. So let’s start with that. Magic, that is. And maybe the nature of the Divine, which preceded and followed the walk in the Oak Grove. Source of image and quotes below: blogspot.com/2009/12/holy-oak-tree-religion.html. When I got home to my own Oak Grove, I resolved to become an Oak Knower. Yes, the tree of the San Juan Islands that I love best is the same Quercus. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The San Juan Islands: A Sense of Place. Friday, December 2, 2011. This time-lapse video is so wonderful I just had to share it now, while I am off becoming an Oak Knower. Let it load for a good several minutes before watching. The name of their company is Uncage the Soul. Sometimes everything that needs to be said is in the title. What is the right way of seeing things? Perhaps this way is closer to the real way of things than our slow and attention-wandering, work-focused minds. Click here. Heritage Tre...

The San Juan Islands: A Sense of Place. Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Yellow Island: A Place of Beauty. The first time I ever went to Yellow Island in 1996, I was with a blind woman—a much loved and respected member of my community. While the rest of us feasted on riotous colors and sweeping views,. She was carefully led to perfumed scents, the rough touch of lichen against rock,. Smooth and cool Madrona bark,. And the raised letters of the memorial to homesteaders Lew and Tib Dodd. And naturalist who is buil...

The San Juan Islands: A Sense of Place. Sunday, April 29, 2012. A Sense of Place Needs Presence. Or maybe it doesn't for everybody. But I had to go all the way to the Green River in Utah to remember why a sense of place is even important. After 7 days in the Canyonlands, floating at river speed, my head and heart gradually aligned themselves to the landscape. I slowed down and time became all of one piece. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
