Hey Kyoto: Roof Beams
http://heykyoto.blogspot.com/2014/01/roof-beams.html
Sunday, January 19, 2014. The word around town says it's all related to the consumption tax going up this April. Projects are being pushed along, things need to be done sooner before the cost goes up, which means working weekends for a lot more people. It all starts to make sense, but questions loom. When April does come around, will we see a drop off in the amount of construction work being done? Is that why so many workers are willing to work on snowy Sunday mornings? Sunday, April 20, 2014. You never know what kind of life you'll run into on the river. Dogs and cats are no surprise, but it's always a special day when you can see a baby goat dressed up and river rats checking out the cherry blossoms. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Hey Kyoto: December 2013
http://heykyoto.blogspot.com/2013_12_01_archive.html
Sunday, December 29, 2013. Had growing up. But when I'm tasting it, I can't help but think that the last one I had was probably at the Staples Center while watching the Kings, and it probably cost $11. The price aside, that made me happy. It could have been a coke, a bag of peanuts, or chocolate-covered popcorn to take me back, but this time it was that distinct, internationally reproducible taste. Sunday, December 8, 2013. Hey Kyoto: May 2009
http://heykyoto.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2009. Swine Flu had its 15 minutes of fame here, and so did the masks. (The sign above says one mask per person). Thursday, May 28, 2009. Dinner Pt. 2. This is from a gathering at a friend's apartment a few weeks. It was actually only people from the UCs that were there. But they're all pretty good cooks. Tuesday, May 26, 2009. End of the Road/Matsuo Shrine. The shrine was really beautiful, which added to the whole experience. The pictures show it a little, but behind and around most ...

Hey Kyoto: April 2009
http://heykyoto.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Wednesday, April 29, 2009. Here are some pictures to keep you guys entertained while I'm gone, since I probably won't be able to update my blog for a week. These first two pictures are from Nijo Castle last Saturday. It was raining, which actually kind of worked out for us. It wasn't nearly as crowded as it might have been otherwise, allowing us to take better pictures. Which kind of underwear should I get? Spiderman or the green face guy? Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Monday, April 27, 2009. Lunch pt. 2.

Hey Kyoto: July 2009
http://heykyoto.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 31, 2009. One of my cultural classes had a fun field trip a town next to Lake Biwa, which is the biggest lake in Japan. During out lunch break, a bunch of us decided to go up to the top of the big mountain in the city for a good view of the lake. There was a gondola lift, but some of us more adventurous types decided to just hike up to the top of the mountain. It took about 30 minutes, so it wasn't that big of a deal. And here is the biggest lake in Japan, Lake Biwa (Biwako in Japanese).

Hey Kyoto: March 2014
http://heykyoto.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Wednesday, March 26, 2014. On TV, but it is more likely these guys were part of the Stray Cats. Generation. I have seen larger groups in Nagoya and Tokyo, always doing more or less the same thing in a very public place. I bet every major city has at least a few groups. You can go so far as to call this a sub-culture, one that has now come full-circle after brief periods of mainstream popularity. Hats off to the brave three of Kyoto. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Hey Kyoto: August 2009
http://heykyoto.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 11, 2009. I'll be in hotels for the next few weeks with my family. We've been sightseeing, and plan to do plenty more. So far I've taken them to Nijo Castle, Gion Corner, Kaitenzushi (sushi on a conveyor belt), Okonomiyaki, Takoyaki, Mr. Donut, and numerous breads, coffees, and mochas. The first thing we did that I had never done before was go out to Osaka and watch a Hanshin Tigers baseball game! Thursday, August 6, 2009. Tuesday, August 4, 2009. Photos from my film camera. I guess the f...
