Yorkshire Ramblings

Saturday, 25 July 2015. Tales from the allotment. Hi everyone. It's been a while since my last blog post, and Sybil and I haven't been on many decent walks lately due to a badly sprained foot (mine, this time). I thought I would post some photos of my allotment instead. Please excuse the black ring around some of the photos; today was the first time I have used my conversion macro lens and I'm still getting to grips with it. This isn't macro photography by any means, just an hour pointing and shooting.

Yorkshire Ramblings: April 2015

http://yorkshireramblings.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 7 April 2015. There's a pheasant in my greenhouse! Where is this year going? I can't believe it is April already. I love the anticipation of the coming spring that the late winter months bring; watching for snowdrops and daffodils tentatively poking their heads above the soil, and those teasing days of blue skies and mild temperatures before another flurry of snow reminds us we are still in the clutches of winter. Parsley, Mint, Chives. The herb bed in the picture above was a tangled mess of cou...

Yorkshire Ramblings: Trans Pennine Trail: Bolton-upon-Dearne to Conisbrough

http://yorkshireramblings.blogspot.com/2014/02/trans-pennine-trail-bolton-upon-dearne.html

Monday, 24 February 2014. Trans Pennine Trail: Bolton-upon-Dearne to Conisbrough. Today's walk started from Bolton-upon-Dearne and ended roughly 10 miles later at Conisbrough station, after a quick visit to Sprotbrough Flash nature reserve. After a false start from the train station (that'll teach me to ask a four-year-old for directions! Easy to follow - my kind of trail. We passed the Earth Centre, which rather sadly is closed now to the public. Conisbrough Castle was also in full view now, but rat...

Yorkshire Ramblings: December 2014

http://yorkshireramblings.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Monday, 29 December 2014. What's all that white stuff? So, I guess it snowed over the weekend. Of course, the first thing Sybil and I did Saturday morning was go outside to play in it. Not to the park, for as I suspected the hills of which were packed with eager kids, both young and old, sledging away. No; Sybil and I visited our secret clifftop on the edge of Kimberworth. We had the place to ourselves, and there were hardly any prints in the fresh snow. First we played catch:. Look at that fine form.

Yorkshire Ramblings: April 2014

Thursday, 17 April 2014. Maltby and beyond: A visit to some villages. Today's walk was a pretty impressive (for me, anyway! Fifteen-miler starting from Maltby and going through the villages of Hooton Levitt, Carr, Brookhouse, Laughton-en-le-Morthen, Letwell, Firbeck, Stone, past Roche Abbey and back to Maltby. Phew! We've attempted this walk before, but only made it as far as Carr before getting lost. This time we went back and attacked it with a vengeance. Like I say, normal self. Sybil mid-pounce.

Yorkshire Ramblings: March 2014

http://yorkshireramblings.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 23 March 2014. I've been to Silverwood again today. I haven't any pictures as my camera isn't working, so here's one from the summer to remind us what a great area it is:. I wanted to put this blog post to good use, so I've chosen to highlight an issue that I feel is really important. On my way round today I filled two carrier bags to the top with rubbish. Mainly lager cans, but also plastic bottles, chocolate wrappers, bits of plastic and other odd things. I don't want this to be a lecture. ...

June 2, 2014 · 5:05 pm. Bruises, scratches and an embarrassing ‘fall’! Carerra Vengeance, Halfords. The first point I really want to make is how awesome this bike is for the money! At under 300, it’s perfect for someone like me who isn’t going to be entering any competitions but does want to be able to ride on surfaces other than tarmac (that’s what my Pendleton Somerby is for). I have only ridden it twice so far, but it seems spot on; my bi-wheeled expert other half also agrees! Up hills, but not pedall...
