In the third chapter of the book, Brunton mentions an Egyptian mystic called Mahmoud Bey, who successfully demonstrates his magical powers to the skeptical Brunton. Bey first asks Brunton to take a piece of paper and a pencil, and write down any question that comes to his mind.
