The Northern Reporter: Got writer's block, so enjoy some Writer's Block
http://northernreporter.blogspot.com/2012/01/got-writers-block-so-enjoy-some-writers.html
Saturday, January 28, 2012. Got writer's block, so enjoy some Writer's Block. I've been behind the game lately. I thought once Christmas was over it would be smooth sailing. So far, I haven't really been able to get around to crafting another memory from the newsroom. Perhaps I'm too concerned with quality. Yes, that must be it. Anyway, Bill Phillips posted another entry. Oh yeah, if you want to read Phil Beaulieu's farewell, you can find it here. I also liked this blog. And many papers seem to have a ve...

The Northern Reporter: February 2012
http://northernreporter.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Thursday, February 23, 2012. Northern BC comes short in Ma Murray's. Well I took a gander through the Ma Murray award finalists. To see if my name came up. It didn't, by the way. But I wanted to see who else from my neck of the woods was recognized, as I know there are some talented people in this area. And you know what? Not many of my neighbours were named. I know my friend the BC Reporter Reporter. Grant Harris and Robert Forsyth of The Interior News. Are finalists in the Ad Design Award, Under 25,000.

The Northern Reporter: November 2011
http://northernreporter.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 14, 2011. Discovering the real power of the press. I'm a little apprehensive when it comes to people approaching me to do a story on them, especially when it comes to murky areas like domestic assaults and spousal abuse. I'm never sure off the bat if there's a story or if someone just has an axe to grind. I always turn down stories on custody battles and the like, I think for obvious reasons. That's actually quite brave, and I agree to do the story. I just never knew how much. Her I did ...

The Northern Reporter: October 2011
http://northernreporter.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Saturday, October 29, 2011. Is it slow around here or is it just me? Look, I won't pretend I've been good at keeping this blog updated over the last several months. Summer, and October, were hard months partly because I spent a good chunk of time out of town. Somehow I have the gift of getting holidays. I feel somewhat vindicated that many of my other favourite blogs have slowed down lately. And with the civic elections going on, I have a good excuse to be slow with this thing. The Northern Reporter: Flipped over a car accident
http://northernreporter.blogspot.com/2011/03/flipped-over-car-accident.html
Monday, March 7, 2011. Flipped over a car accident. The radio scanner broke the silence in the newsroom and broadcasted a car was leaking fuel after it crashed on a nearby road. I arrived shortly before the driver was able to leave, they were still being checked out by the ambulance. (Everyone was all fine, no injuries.) I started snapping pictures of the car itself - even though I could see the driver, considering how unmomentous this accident was I didn't think it was worth bringing her into it. Office...

The Northern Reporter: July 2011
http://northernreporter.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 26, 2011. I guess I missed the point. So I wrote a community news piece recently. It tends to happen on occasion. It was a story on an volunteer environmental group who was clearing out some neglected sections of habitat to get them producing more fish as they were designed to. The area they were cleaning up was getting blocked by some buck-toothed, oversized rodents and they wanted water flowing again. They thought my slant, I suppose, didn't do them a service. Let that be a lesson for the...

The Northern Reporter: The uncomfortable bearing of gifts
http://northernreporter.blogspot.com/2012/02/uncomfortable-bearing-of-gifts.html
Thursday, February 23, 2012. The uncomfortable bearing of gifts. It has happened again. First, as I have written before, someone brought me flowers. Then last week, there were chocolates. Separate people, by the way, gave me these gifts. Or a story but I tell her a young person from the area going on to find success is a news story so I grabbed the guy's number and get a story done on him. So I come into the office after being out and there's a package of Ferrero Rocher. As noted, it's not. Of course it ...
