Random thoughts about random stuff. The power of Unix…. Ah, the power of Unix… is keeping my basement from flooding. So I wrote a script to turn the pump on, leave it on for 10 seconds, then turn it off and make cron run that script every 15 minutes. As long as the pump doesn’t burn out completely, I think I’m okay until the plumber gets here. Ah, the power of Unix. Ran into a couple of problems with the IDE, but finally got those straightened out and was able to upload an example sketch and run it. I still don’t know what I’ll do with it. Random thoughts about random stuff. Tajikistan, 6500 miles. March 25, 2012. Worked a station in Tajikistan today on radio teletype, using 50 watts and a 50 foot long dipole. So with less power than the average lightbulb, and some wire, I made contact with a person 6500 miles away. And that, my friends, is why radio is exciting. March 22, 2012.
