Search for Sydney's best Yum Cha: October 2007

http://yumchasydney.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Search for Sydney's best Yum Cha. Sunday, October 14, 2007. King Chef Chinese Restaurant 14/10/07 - 38%. 74 Railway Parade Kogarah. Lunch Sunday 14 October 2007. Well, it is a small place near the train station at Kogarah - that should give you an idea of the place. And it wasn't overly busy at 1.20pm on a Sunday. The food was very disappointing - the prawn dumplings were ok, the scallops so-so, enjoyable - but so far below the competition. The saam sik goh was fine - but a bit oily. It came to $51.1...

Search for Sydney's best Yum Cha. Sunday, September 30, 2007. East Ocean 30/09/07 - 68%. 421-429 Sussex St and 86-88 Dixon St, Haymarket. Lunch Sunday 30 September. Before getting into this review I have to admit my prejudice - East Ocean has long been my favourite place in Sydney. We were actually planning to go to Golden Century today (my first time), but it turns out they don't offer Yum Cha. oh well, a few doors down is East Ocean. Below is shark fin combination dumplings. I liked them - a tiny t...

http://yumchasydney.blogspot.com/2008/10/kam-fook-restaurant-chatswood-41008-66.html

Search for Sydney's best Yum Cha. Sunday, October 5, 2008. Kam Fook Restaurant Chatswood - 4/10/08 - 66%. Shop 600, Level 6 Westfield Chatswood. So, Yum Cha in a Westfield? And the sister restaurant of one of the worst places I have visited (the one in Bondi Junction). Yet surprisingly I really like this place. Sui Mai, no complaints, other than it was a tiny bit cold - but still good. Steamed red bean buns - very nice too. Not always on offer, but these were plump and steaming. Spring rolls - I didn't t...

Search for Sydney's best Yum Cha: Golden Globe Burwood - 12/10/2008 - 60%

http://yumchasydney.blogspot.com/2008/10/golden-globe-12102008-60.html

Search for Sydney's best Yum Cha. Sunday, October 12, 2008. Golden Globe Burwood - 12/10/2008 - 60%. On the main drag of Burwood, Golden Globe is only 5 minutes walk from the Westfield. We arrive at around 1215, and got a table in 2 minutes. Admittedly it was a crap table just inside the door, but a quick seating is always good. The sui mai was very moist and fresh, but little flavour. The shark fin was very nice - and reasonably priced. They were moist inside and not greasy - very good. 125 out of 20.

Matts restaurant guide - Low Fat: December 2006

http://mattsrestaurantguide.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html

Matts restaurant guide - Low Fat. Sunday, December 17, 2006. Was a big disapointment. I have been here twice before, the first time was years and years ago, and i only really remember the company, not the food. At the most recent time was Kate and my first date back in January 2005 - so I'm sure everything tasted great that time! Snails (one dozen) in the shell, garlic butter. Sandrines entree was nicer - as you would expect, but they were quite small. Confit Duck with sweet potato, baby spinach and Oran...

Matts restaurant guide - Low Fat: October 2006

http://mattsrestaurantguide.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html

Matts restaurant guide - Low Fat. Monday, October 09, 2006. How to make black bean steamed chicken feet! Like at yum cha, but without frying! Get your feet and cut off all the nails. Then fast boil for 30-35 minutes. Then cover in soy sauce. It needs to be dark, so i used double premium soy, and dark mushroom soy. Then leave them, turning occasionally, to soak it all up. Then mix a bit of corn flour and cold water and add to thicken the sauce. Transfer to serving bowl, spoon over sauce, and eat!

Matts restaurant guide - Low Fat. Tuesday, August 01, 2006. Est - Australia's restaurant of the Year! After Kate and I graduated last month, my parents took us all out for dinner at Est. (The Establishment) - which is Peter Doyle's restaurant. It was exquisite food, here is some of it. Above, tranche of duck foie gras, bosc pear, sauternes jelly, toasted brioche 33. This was a special of the night, a crab salad. Grilled white scallops and pork cheek confit, celeriac, jicama, apple and cress salad 33.

Details of my travel whilst on the road. Tuesday, November 29, 2005. I am also tossing up buying some alcohol here, seeing i won't get any duty free from here in. well i wont within the E.U., and i am not sure if the lay over will give me a chance. i am sure its much cheaper in HK. So things are getting off to a good flight. Still, i have half an hour to kill before boarding - and now that we are in the customs area all the food and drink prices have gone up another 50% - theiving bastards. 29-Dec-05 Med...

Details of my travel whilst on the road. Sunday, October 30, 2005. The hostel i am at is quite good, it is only about AUS$25 for a single room without private bathroom - and it has free internet and breakfast, as well as a kitchen, and a REALLY helpful host who has good english. The room is very basic, and the walls are literally paper thin (made of paper! And well thats enough really! This is the fast train i took down to Gyeongju - and on the left is just a picture i took of a town we passed at 300kmh.

Matts restaurant guide - Low Fat: January 2006

Matts restaurant guide - Low Fat. Friday, January 20, 2006. I accidently posted this message in the wrong blog! So i have put it back in here as well - sorry! You'll notice this isnt the usual creamy sauces and heavy foods associated with French cuisine, but this is the eclectic mix i had whilst in France. First up some good old sushi - which actually wasn't great, but i was dying for sushi by this stage of the trip. A delicious mango desert Christophes mum prepared. Before and after frogs legs entre.

Matts restaurant guide - Low Fat. Friday, November 17, 2006. Mukunghwa Korean in Glebe. Best Korean I have had in Sydney. The food, ambience and service are all fantastic. This is not fine dining - it is casual, fun but very delicious and fantastic value for money! Above - the beef. Side dishes, clockwise from top left its a bean sprout dish, sweet flavoured potatoes, vege pancakes and seasoned garlic stems. A mash up photo kate did on her fancy camera. Above and below the bek se ju. My list of gripes:.

http://mattsrestaurantguide.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html

Matts restaurant guide - Low Fat. Sunday, March 19, 2006. Last Friday night Kate and I went up to celebrate Kayos birthday. Kayo, Kevin, Kate and I had an absolute feast. For started i had ginseng and quail soup - and it had an entire quail inside! This is steamed king prawns, with schallots, giner and garlic, deslish! But a bit too oily for my palate ($19). Above is braised scallops with snow peas, it was so good i forgot to take a picture before starting to eat! Posted by Matt at 2:29 PM.
