Dia meninggalkan Pulau Boyan semasa dia berumur 17 tahun pada tahun 1980. Selain daripada belajar dipesenteren yang hanya mengajar ilmu agama kanak kanak juga akan belajar di madrasah.Madrasah ini juga adalah institusi swasta yang diusahakan olih masyarakat setempat.
