News from Coquette Point. Saturday, 25 April 2015. Hello from a very distressed Coquette Point,. As I walked towards the people the dogs ran out of the Moresby Range National Park and barking loudly, they ran towards me. When the man caught up with the others he called the dogs and put one dog on the one lead he was carrying. They were laughing and all appeared to think it was funny. They left the beach very quickly. I reported the incident to the wildlife hotline on 137468. Sometimes Ky would just stand...

The cassowaries walk around with a halo of mosquitoes buzzing around them. It's a tough life in the rainforest. When seed pods starting falling all around. Snout looked up at the tree to see what was causing the rain of seed-pods. White cockatoo looked down at Snout. I am sure I heard him say "Hello Cassowary". The white cockat...

News from Coquette Point. Saturday, 29 November 2014. Northern Australia is turning Green,. After three months with little rainfall the drought has broken and good rains have been recorded across most of northern Australia. Here at Coquette Point we are notching rainfall of 100 mm for the week. The first rain squall of the season moved up the Johnstone River. Unfortunately I did not capture the dolphin which was chasing these fish. It all looked so perfect, a natural haven, on the shores of the World Her...

Just right for the sugar-cane harvest to move into full swing in the Johnstone River Valley. Sunrise lights up the sleeping Johnstone River Valley as the hum of the sugar-cane harvesters murmur in the thin air. The sun sets over Mt Bartle Frere in a golden clear sky. What Clean Air Act? I support everything you are saying Ian and I k...

News from Coquette Point. Saturday, 25 October 2014. This week the sun set on Gough Whitlam, a man who always believed he was destined to lead Australia and for the three short years when he did, Australian threw off its colonial shackles and for the first time stood on the world stage as a nation. Gough Whitlam gave us a sense of nationhood. The standoff between Snout and Jessie continues and when I saw Jessie sitting examining her feet this week I was concerned she had an injury. I went close to he...

News from Coquette Point. Saturday, 30 August 2014. Hello from Coquette Point,. Low tide in the middle of the day this week and combined with perfect winter weather created the ideal conditions for a stroll on the beach. When the tide goes out the sand flats at Coquette Point are exposed. Clustered together on the outermost sandbar resident terns and pelicans rest and preen in between fishing expeditions. Crested Terns stretch their wings before taking off into the wind. Unfortunately, in spite of the 'n...

News from Coquette Point. Saturday, 25 July 2015. Hello from sunny Coquette Point,. The high in the Bight has moved off and taken the rainclouds with it, subsequently the sun once again is shining on the Cassowary Coast after a week of unremitting cold, miserable, rain and wind. On friday morning the SES rescue boat seemed to glide on a river of glass. It has also been a week of turmoil for cassowary Ky with yet another altercation with dogs. When I came back to the area the dogs were safely in the car.
