The Hubster: Running to the beat
http://thehubsterblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/running-to-beat.html
Thoughts on Eastie and beyond. Sunday, September 18, 2011. Running to the beat. The weather was nice and the turnout was strong at this morning's ZUMIX Run to the Beat 5K in East Boston. Here are some photos from the race. Eastie resident Steve Holt prepares to ride the lead cycle. The runners are off! As she nears the finish, Cheryl Conte passes a group of ZUMIX members keeping the beat. Runners cross the finish line. After conquering the course, runners grab some fruit and water at Piers Park. The Hubster: October 2011

Thoughts on Eastie and beyond. Monday, October 10, 2011. Mann has written a book called 1493. Referring to how the world changed after Columbus first made landfall - and though I haven't read it I did hear him on NPR a few weeks ago and the interview was pretty interesting. ( Link to interview here. On this holiday we remember the meeting, 519 years ago, of two different worlds, and all of the ramifications, good and bad, of that encounter. Links to this post. Sunday, April 02, 2006. Motorbike Fashion and Function. Originally uploaded by Zakcq. There are three items that a proper Vietnamese woman never leaves home without: a hat, a face mask and long gloves. So, maybe by the time mom, dad, and Zakcq come to Saigon, I'll pick them up wearing a hat, mask and gloves, but as of now, I'm still an awkward westerner trying to get a tan and stay cool at the same time. We are home and all is perfectly well. We are disapointed we could not meet in VN. The Foreign Becomi...

nguoi My: The Problem of Tourism
http://jlockrem.blogspot.com/2006/05/problem-of-tourism.html
Saturday, May 13, 2006. The Problem of Tourism. Cultures are influenced by outside forces, and this is not necessarily a bad thing. Cultures are evolving, changing, modernizing. So, why does it bother me that the culture of the area surrounding Sapa has changed due to tourism? Can I say that their lives are worse for tourism? I can not because I do not know this. Do they prefer selling bracelets and blankets to working on the rice fields? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). แม่สอด, Thailand.

http://jlockrem.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 07, 2007. First, what is statelessness? Who are these stateless people in Thailand? Needless to say, we politely said we were not thirsty when she offered us some drinking water. I offered that we could go down and get some water for her, but she assured us that her son was coming that day, and he would gather some for her. I felt guilty being so relieved that I didn't have to do that arduous task in all that heat. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). แม่สอด, Thailand. View my complete profile.

Saturday, May 13, 2006. And she acknowldedges this simply by chuckling to herself and repeating, "Chau Ba! I'm going to miss the scruffy but harmless dog who always tries to get me to let him outside but then follows me upstairs when I refuse. And, won't I be sad when I can't go home to my little room where my roommate, My, is waiting for me? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). แม่สอด, Thailand. View my complete profile. The Hubster: Where the Rose is Sown (Big Country)
http://thehubsterblog.blogspot.com/2011/11/where-rose-is-sown-big-country.html
Thoughts on Eastie and beyond. Friday, November 11, 2011. Where the Rose is Sown (Big Country). We're at war (all the papers say). We will win (i read today). We are strong (it wasn't us). We are right (who started this? Leave your work (i just left school). Leave your home (i am no fool). Take up arms (it left me strong). Sound alarms (the school bell rings). Sons of men who stand like gods. We give life to feed the cause. And run to ground our heathen foe. Our name will never die. There was an error in...

The Hubster: Where I was on 9/11
http://thehubsterblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/where-i-was-on-911.html
Thoughts on Eastie and beyond. Sunday, September 11, 2011. Where I was on 9/11. The training over, we went our separate ways, and I never saw any of those people again. We'd be working for the same organization, but at different facilities, and I've always felt it strange that I spent the most awful moments of my country's recent history in a place I didn't know very well with people I didn't know very well. The Hubster: DC snub could be Bay State gain
http://thehubsterblog.blogspot.com/2011/07/dc-snub-could-be-bay-state-gain.html
Thoughts on Eastie and beyond. Monday, July 18, 2011. DC snub could be Bay State gain. President Obama today announced his nomination to head-up the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. About a possible Senate run. Warren would be an excellent candidate, and she would immediately have my support. I'm hoping she throws her hat in the ring. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
