uNclear power: word_salad

Zaklog the Great (. I was flipping through the dictionary the other day looking for another word and happened to pause for a moment on the entry for "nucleus". It turns out nucleus. Is from the Latin for kernal. More interesting, though, is that it's a diminutive form of the Latin for nut. Therefore, the original meaning of nucleus is "a small nut". So, as far as I can tell, a nuclear war is a lot of trouble started by one little nut. :-p. Post a new comment. We will log you in after post.

Recapture that word!: word_salad
http://word-salad.livejournal.com/22420.html
Zaklog the Great (. If you examine the word roots, means simply "a love of wisdom." This would mean a philosopher is "one who loves wisdom." However, as I discussed and debated with a friend of mine who's a grad student in philosophy, philosophy is now a specific field of study and a philosopher is a professional scholar investigating certain types of questions. Oh, you want to hear it? Well, alright. My new word for a lover of wisdom: Sophiaphile. Post a new comment. We will log you in after post.

Hello there. New poster here. Being the word gurus that you are, I was just wondering what you guys might think of my "Lexicon-In-Progress". I've tried rather hard to make the definitions both accurate and clear, so if you spot any vagueness or inaccuracies, please let me know. Also, any additional words suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :-). Post a new comment. We will log you in after post. We will log you in after post. We will log you in after post. La araña discoteca (. Probably applies more to males, but the ladies can answer as well. I've got a definition in need of a word. The action we are talking about is peeing on a spot to try to remove a toilet stain. So what's the word? Post a new comment. We will log you in after post. We will log you in after post. Zaklog the Great (. Oh, we don't use that word anymore . . . I thought this might be appropriate on election day. Getting into the spirit of the whole thing, I thought I'd suggest that instead of saying "politically correct" we should all now call it "euphemistically accurate.". Post a new comment. Entry #42: Taking my lead from Douglas Adams: word_salad
http://word-salad.livejournal.com/26096.html
Zaklog the Great (. Entry #42: Taking my lead from Douglas Adams. For those of you who've never heard of it, this post is partly inspired by a book I suspect most of you would enjoy. It's The Meaning of Liff. By Douglas Adams, in which he takes a definition in need of a word, and matches it with a place name which as he says, generally just "loaf about on signposts pointing to places.". The definition I needed a word for: That terrible itch that inevitably appears the moment both hands are occupied.
