The Zambia Diaries

Wednesday, 24 June 2015. Back in 2012 when our adventure began the plan was to spend 2.5 years in Africa – six months in South Africa and then two years in Zambia. That 2.5 years started January 2013. The astute among you will notice that 2.5 years ends in June 2015…. Needed creating, and the whole place needed decorating. We had a mammoth task and with no finances to sort it, other than what we could raise, it felt like. A mountain to climb. I confess that for the first 6 months I (Claire) broke dow...

The Zambia Diaries: September 2013

http://www.zambiadiaries.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Friday, 20 September 2013. 16 Elephants On The Road. You’ll recall from the last blog that we had said our goodbyes in South Africa and were about to embark on the journey north to Zambia. For those of a nervous disposition, or those pressed for time and wishing to jump to the conclusion, let me tell you right now that we arrived safely, and in good spirits. Our days were planned to go like this:. Day 3, 477km: get up early and see the falls, leave around 11am to arrive at a guest house in Lusaka by 17:00.

The Zambia Diaries: September 2012

http://www.zambiadiaries.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

Saturday, 29 September 2012. 4 There's a lion outside. This post is going to be intentionally reflective. Over the next three months I'll be talking much more about the practical stuff and how we're getting ready to go, but I hope you'll forgive me a bit of a philosophical muse on where we are right now. Anyway, that is not the point of the story. The point of that story is to give me a neat lead into my current thesis. I want to talk about all the things that threaten to hold us back. I'm happy to admit...

The Zambia Diaries: 22. Mr. Stonier is my father.

http://www.zambiadiaries.blogspot.com/2014/12/22-mr-stonier-is-my-father.html

Thursday, 4 December 2014. 22 Mr Stonier is my father. People have started calling me Mr. Stonier. I don’t like it. Mr Stonier is my dad. “Mr. Stonier” is a hereditary title that can only be passed on after the current holder has passed on. Which is some time in the distant future, all things being well. Plus it sounds old. I’m too young to be Mister anything: I’m only, what, thirty…umm…seven? You see: completely different. The hat is part of the package. Round about August a couple we know announced tha...

A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new. Einstein. Child led letters activity. May 8, 2013. Harry and I did Some child led letter play this morning (unintentionally- it was that child led! Using his Megasketcher. He had drawn an amazing train where I could make out the wheels, funnel, dome, tracks and cab, so we were chatting about that (while Emily was napping). May 5, 2013. We did den building with branches, trees and leaves which Harry (and more than anyone, dear husband) loved.

A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new. Einstein. Saltdough plaque for Emily. April 18, 2013. One of my friends shared the Imagination Tree’s. Tutorial which showed how to make saltdough plaques a few weeks back, and today I suddenly decided that we were going to make one for Emily as Harry was at nursery. A great way to preserve memories without having to spend any cash – I like it! Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). My worst fear…. A per...

A person who never made a mistake never tried anything new. Einstein. May 5, 2013. We headed to our local National Trust property today as the sun was shining brightly and I knew they were launching a new list of ‘Things to do before you reach 11 3/4’ with lots of fun activities to try. We did den building with branches, trees and leaves which Harry (and more than anyone, dear husband) loved. Then we went and saw the kitchen gardens, did some animal tracking and looked for birds.
