The Coquelicot Projects: March 2011

http://coquelicotprojects.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

Happy first day of spring! Now that it's above zero, I am OUTSIDE biking along the lake shore or walking through the Don Valley. Here are some of my pictures from the last day of winter and the first day of spring. Ashbridge Estate on Queen East. According to Wikipedia. It is the earliest known site of residential inhabitation in the east Toronto area.". A cool mural near the streetcar yard. This is where the streetcars sleep. It's a great starter program. No games but two practices a week. In the spring they will play other teams. He is really enjoying it. Helyn just turned 6 in September and is in grade 1. Where did my baby girl go? Glen is still working hard with his business. Hard to believe its been two and a half years. We added a ...

The Coquelicot Projects: Books

http://coquelicotprojects.blogspot.com/2011/06/books.html

Lately I’ve developed a kind of paranoia of being without a book. Not a fear of sitting down on the subway and realizing I forgot my book at home, but a fear of the dark, empty space between finishing one book and starting another. And what if I start another and it’s a dud? What if I run into a string of duds before I can find a book worth getting into? It’s like book limbo. To cut my risks, I’ve taken to reading two books at a time. Friday, June 17, 2011 by Shayla. June 17, 2011 at 8:21 AM. The rest of...

The Coquelicot Projects: 20 things

http://coquelicotprojects.blogspot.com/2011/07/20-things.html

I'm currently reading an interesting book on enhancing creativity ( The Artist's Way. And I thought I'd post my response to one of the exercises in case anyone wanted to give it a try (also, I haven't blogged in a million years and I need to bite the bullet and post something). To paraphrase the exercise:. List twenty things you enjoy doing (this is actually way harder than it sounds). When was the last time you did these things? Sing (preferably with others). Yesterday (alone); June 30th (with others).

The Coquelicot Projects: Letters: Shark Finning

http://coquelicotprojects.blogspot.com/2011/06/letter-to-government-shark-finning.html

One facet of the Coquelicot Projects is my getting back into letter-writing for environmental and political issues. I've been feeling out of the loop, especially since I haven't been agreeing with a lot of the big leftist issues in Toronto these days (ie. I'm glad we're scrapping Transit City - the slogan for Transit City ought to be "Well, It's Better Than Nothing"). TO: [my city councillor]. CC: councillor debaeremaeker@toronto.ca, mayor ford@toronto.ca. BCC: [all my friends]. Dear [my city councillor],.

http://coquelicotprojects.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

I want to grow through you. Like a tree through a chain link fence. Sap flowing slow through cold. Hard metal bars, passing on slow. News from the lips of my leaves. To where my horizon touches your center. I want to swallow you. To rooftops, birds, balconies, kites, clouds, power lines. I wear in my stomach. They’ll have to cut me down dead. To get you out. Friday, August 19, 2011 by Shayla. 183; 1 comments. Another exercise from that interesting book on creativity I'm reading. Contact sports like footb...

I need to begin this review with a warning that it contains spoilers for most of the book. Normally I hate to do this, but to talk about the parts that bugged me, I have to “go there” and cover the major plot points. So this is you only warning to skip this review if you want to go into this book and be surprised. August 13, 2015. Game review: Galak-Z for PS4. By Zoe E W.

Knitting into the revolution

Knitting into the revolution. I don't even know what to say anymore. I think it's snowing again. There was an ice storm. I'm just gonna throw this out there. Does anyone else think that Sarah Palin looks like a stripper? Shut up, I can dream. Pretty much makes me want to be a train conductor. Or, you know.a fierce black woman. I've started drinking my coffee black. It's actually not that bad. At all really. It really pisses me off when people ask a 'rehoming' fee of $200 and up for pets on Craigslist.
