It is believed that the lake is very deep and people avoid it. Papantsyvili in Mengrelian means drowned priest. Zugdidi district is located on Odishi plain on the shores of Chkhoushi river that is Enguri basin.It is 318 kms from Tbilisi and is 110 ms from the level of the sea. Mainly here is warm winter and hot windy summer. The city has wide streets and a lot of Greenery. The main grove in the uptown was planned by famous Georgian writer R. Eristavi. It is supposed that the title 'Zugdidi' originated from the words Zurg-didi, that means high hill in Georgian.
