Vanishing Landscapes", 2012. Is a series of work about a peatland on the outskirts of Amsterdam. These characteristic landscapes are the remains of a long tradition of peat gathering in which the peat was dug up, dried and sold for heating. The landscape that remained after the peat gathering in these areas was a wetland with islands. The peatlands of the "Vanishing Landscapes", were designated a recreational area.

Daan Zuijderwijk (1974) and Maaike Vergouwe (1978) both studied photography at the Academy St.Joost, Breda. Since 2006 they work together on various projects. They work with large-format cameras that show a wealth of details and textures. This is especially important, because the proces of looking at the finished artwork and the working process of the artists are closely related; both consist of a journey of discovery.
