Beth's Everything Blog. April 19, 2015. They tree looks nothing like a dog so where did the name dogwood. The wood of the dogwood is quite hard and has been used to make the heads of golf clubs. Some say the Celtics used it to make a sturdy tool called a dag or dagwood. Another source reports that the Cherokee Indians saw the trees as the homes of little guardian gnomes they called the Dogwood People. 7 Smells I Miss. Dad's pipe tobacco. He could not criticize while puffing. Ivory soap. The bar that floated. After my bath, I was 99.44% pure. My impurities left a ring around the tub. Pine-Sol. Somebody cared enough about me to mop the floor I walked on. Chalk dust. It collected in the tray beneath the blackboard in high school Spanish class. It sifted into the air as I passed notes to the football star two seats over. From now on, I intend to say goodbye like I really mean it. Closure is a luxury.
