Poldhu was not only an experimental and development station it was also involved in commercial activities. In 1903 the Marconi Company came to an agreement with the Cunard shipping company to send the Cunard Daily Bulletin ships newspaper from Poldhu and Glace Bay wireless stations on a daily basis. Glace Bay was used as the range of Poldhu could only cover half the Atlantic Ocean. Glace Bay probably received the script by cable.

N air from 3 rd. August to 30 th. From the Marconi Centre, Poldhu, South West Cornwall, home of the Poldhu Amateur Radio Club ( GB2GM ) .QTH -. Poldhu site where declaration of war was transmitted on night of 4/5 th. Station organised by and licenced to G3PLE on behalf of the Radio Officers’ Association to honour the Wireless Operators who gave their lives in the Great War. (on both sides of the conflict). Qsl or OQRS direct only to G3PLE who is QTHR.

Poldhu

Marconi selected the site at Poldhu, near Mullion on the Lizard peninsula near the most Southerly point in Cornwall, for his Great Experiment in sending a wireless signal across the Atlantic Ocean. On December 12 th. 1901 the letter S in Morse code was transmitted from Poldhu and received in St. Johns, Newfoundland. The site ceased operation in 1933 and was dismantled in 1935 and the land passed to the National Trust. The Marconi Monument stands close by the Wireless Field . August 2014 to 30 th.
