A Year with the Master: 52 weeks of Alfred Hitchcock

A Year with the Master: 52 weeks of Alfred Hitchcock. Monday, March 18, 2013. Week 9: Rebecca (1940). I don't even know where to begin when talking about Rebecca. While not necessarily my personal favorite, it is certainly in my top five or so, and it is probably the most fascinating of all his works in my mind. It was his first film made in Hollywood, and it won Best Picture in 1940, his only film to do so. Labels: Hitchock; film; director; suspense. Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Some of the filmwork is very...

http://52weeksofhitchcock.blogspot.com/2013/02/week-6-39-steps-1935.html

A Year with the Master: 52 weeks of Alfred Hitchcock. Wednesday, February 27, 2013. Week 6: The 39 Steps (1935). In The 39 Steps,. The audience is never bored for a moment, and the characters never seem safe for even an entire scene. Hitchcock creates several moments where the audience might believe Hannay has eluded danger for a moment, only to quickly realize how wrong they are. Of course, Hitchcock had a hand in that as well. While filming this movie, he had them handcuffed before filming the scen...

A Year with the Master: 52 weeks of Alfred Hitchcock. Tuesday, February 19, 2013. Week 5: To Catch a Thief (1955). In To Catch a Thief,. This film, while not in my mind an iconic example of Hitchcock, has always been very enjoyable to me. I watch it about every 3-4 years and find myself forgetting the twists and turns in the way the plot unfolds by the time I watch it again. That's about all I've got on this one. If you haven't seen it, you should definitely check it out! February 21, 2013 at 9:08 AM.

A Year with the Master: 52 weeks of Alfred Hitchcock. Tuesday, March 12, 2013. Week 8: Young and Innocent (1937). This is one of Hitchcock's British films, and was renamed when released in America to The Girl Was Young. It is very loosely based on the novel A Shilling for Candles. By Josephine Tey. This film, while enjoyable, definitely lacks some of the substance Hitchcock typically provides. My ultimate decision on this film is it's worth a watch if you happen to catch it on TV, but only if you are in ...

A Year with the Master: 52 weeks of Alfred Hitchcock. Sunday, January 27, 2013. Week 3: I Confess (1953). Good evening. I have to first confess that I Confess. Slipped through the cracks for me. I had not only never seen it before, but I also don't remember ever having heard of it before either. I am glad that I stumbled upon it. Montgomery Clift delivers a solid performance as Father Logan, but every bit as impressive is Karl Malden as the police officer investigating the murder. O.E. Hasse ...Hitchcock...

My thoughts related to the teachings of Epicurus. On behalf of “The International Society of Friends of Epicurus”. The General Good and Common Welfare →. On Comfort and Contentment. March 9, 2013. Is there any concept more natural for a living being that to instinctively seek one’s own comfort? Was not each of us born instinctively seeking our own comfort? Does not a newborn cry when hungry? Does not a newborn cry when uncomfortable? And is not the infant serene when bathed and wrapped in a blanket?

My thoughts related to the teachings of Epicurus. And to what end? Does not a dog seek shade in the heat of a Summer day? And to what end? Does not the baby cry in order to seek comfort. Does not the dog seek shade for the same reason? The fact is that all living beings are self centered BY NATURE, and thus to deny such or to act contrary to such is to defy Nature herself. In the words of Epicurus: “We must not resist nature but obey her”. And furthermore he encourages us to:. Pingback: Another New Epicu...

My thoughts related to the teachings of Epicurus. I will forego writing as to the history of Epicurus; and thus I offer the following Wiki link for that very purpose:. Http:/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epicurus. To be honest, I have not reviewed the Wiki article regarding Epicurus for a while, yet the link I just referenced is exactly the locale I researched when I first became interested in Epicurus a few months ago. My thoughts related to the teachings of Epicurus. On behalf of “The International Society of Friends of Epicurus” →. Natural Anxieties and Undue Fears. March 2, 2013. Anxiety is a disruption of the stable environment of our natural state of being known as peace of mind. There are two classifications of anxieties. There are NATURAL ANXIETIES and there are UNNECESSARY ANXIETIES. Again Epicurus maintained that correct understanding that death is nothing to us makes a mortal life enjoyable , for since while ...

My thoughts related to the teachings of Epicurus. Natural Anxieties and Undue Fears →. February 24, 2013. Recently, I was asked how long I have been an Epicurean. Upon reflection it occurred to me that within the context of the query, the question would be more accurately phrased, When did I STOP being an Epicurean? For the truth be told, I was born an Epicurean Thinker…. From the moment of one’s birth, there is a natural instinct to pursue bodily comfort and peace of mind. And so it is that a newborn de...
