8 Wheels' Plant Transport Blog. Almost but not quite entirely heavy haulage. Monday, 21 July 2008. 21st - 25th July 2008. 0630 Start. Week 8 on the artic, 3 more to go until I'm back to 6 wheels. I'm loaded up ready this morning with a Doosan DX225 it's a 22 tonner and the widest one we've got being just shy of 11' wide. It's this one here, taken last week when I collected it from another site. At half seven he wanders out "Oh I didn't hear you". A) save someone else doing it later. I'm out of the yard a...

8 Wheels' Plant Transport Blog. Almost but not quite entirely heavy haulage. Wednesday, 30 January 2008. One day last week I was doing some work for Ernest Doe delivering some machines that they had sold. The first load was unworthy of note a shiny new Hyundai 5.5 tonner out and an old green one back in as part ex. The blokes in the yard at Doe's had a right chuckle when I took that back in, although I did point out that they had in fact just bought it so now who's the #@! Monday, 28 January 2008. Thankf...

8 Wheels' Plant Transport Blog. Almost but not quite entirely heavy haulage. Monday, 15 September 2008. 15th - 19th September 2008. We took a different route to the two I used before and still it ends up being about 35 minutes give or take a minute. The machines are at the end of a long track and it's a long bumpy reverse to get there from the farmyard. Once I'done it's back to Leaden Roding to collect the other dumper and back via a 4th route which is also a 35 minute journey. There was another problem ...

8 Wheels' Plant Transport Blog. Almost but not quite entirely heavy haulage. Wednesday, 28 May 2008. A slight change from the norm this week, our other driver is on holiday and I've been given his work to do. Usually they just avoid containers if he's not about but with work getting thin on the ground I'm pressed into service. Wednesday 28th May 2008. It's PTO in and out the cab, and on the levers. After unfolding the crane I align the hook roughly with the centre of the box. Snap the chains onto the hook.

8 Wheels' Plant Transport Blog. Almost but not quite entirely heavy haulage. Monday, 25 February 2008. 25th - 29th February 2008. 0630 Start. In a bit earlier than normal to load up the cab with the essential basics, kettle, mugs, tea etc. a map, gloves and hi-vis should keep me out of trouble until later on. The truck seems to be in one piece and has actually been washed by the bloke who was driving it last week. Back at the yard and I'm done for the day at 1700. Distance 245Km. I'm heading for Laxton a...

8 Wheels' Plant Transport Blog. Almost but not quite entirely heavy haulage. Thursday, 20 December 2007. 17th - 21st December 2007. 0645 Start. I'm ready loaded from Friday with a Yanmar 75 and I'm off to the pit at Bradwell just outside Braintree to drop it off for one of our drivers who is there waiting for it. I'm done with the given workload so I head back to the yard and lend assistance in the yard moving machines about to make some space for the influx later in the week. 0645 Start. A short hop...

8 Wheels' Plant Transport Blog. Almost but not quite entirely heavy haulage. Sunday, 30 September 2007. Tools of the trade. Being a specialised sort of job, needs a fair amount of equipment. On the bulkhead, I've got 3 sets of heavy duty chains for securing machines, a towing chain, a set of 2 lifting chains, large drop chain and a couple of ratchet chain tensioners. There's also a crowbar and a club hammer. And a brush too. Oh and a 5 tonne electric winch too. Shovel and wash brush. Tools of the trade.

8 Wheels' Plant Transport Blog. Almost but not quite entirely heavy haulage. Friday, 25 April 2008. I'm having some camera issues at the moment so I'm not blogging as usual, the camera phone quality is not great so it's not really worth bothering with. However I did know that today might be quite good so I borrowed a camera so I could make a one day entry. Friday 25th April 2008. The 5t machine goes back to Chelmsford, and I trundle over to Great Baddow to load a Unimog from the dealer there. The yard wh...

8 Wheels' Plant Transport Blog. Almost but not quite entirely heavy haulage. Tuesday, 30 October 2007. 29th October - 2nd November 2007. Both the machines were run down to a site in the Dutch Quarter of Colchester, there was a bit of a side slope and for every 6" the machine moved down the ramps it moved an inch sideways. Luckily it didn't slide and I make a quick detour to the golf course to collect a 120 roller. It's back to Target for a 6t dumper and this is taken to a site in Stanway. 0645 Start....
