Monday, January 23, 2012. Link for the photos-. Https:/ picasaweb.google.com/102453851147066697991/MomAndLauraSVisit. Abby J. Cook. The Cook ladies visit Linguere! I was so lucky to host my mom and sister over the Christmas holiday. I can't believe I've had my parents and sister visit my home here and traveled around the country. It was amazing to see familiar faces and allow myself some general silliness throughout their trip. It was a much appreciated break from my normal routine here. Abby J. Cook.

Toubackery in Senegal: Yang yang, gamou, family reunions

http://www.abigailjaynecook.blogspot.com/2011/06/yang-yang-gamou-family-reunions.html

Saturday, June 18, 2011. Yang yang, gamou, family reunions. AnnMarie and I dressed to impress. Baby sister Mama and cousin Ramata. Cauldron of onions AnnMarie and I spent hours cutting. Hanging out with the ladies in the kitchen gets you the best gossip about everyone in the family. Since the gamou was essentially a family reunion, there was a lot of people to talk about! Family, friends and places on my bedroom wall. I'm slowly creating a willow tree, or slowly going nuts. Abby J. Cook. Abby J. Cook.

Toubackery in Senegal: May 2011

http://www.abigailjaynecook.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, May 22, 2011. Installing the New Kids! Little chunk with his gris-gris. I was lucky enough to accompany Justin to a health causerie in the village Dakhar Mboudou. Fields of manure, pretty standard in village. Horse Transportation is the way to go through deep sand. This is the river Ferlo that "runs" through our region. As you can see, no water. The railroad that used to run through the region. Me and my little sister "Mama" at the Yang Yang Gamou. We were dressed to the nines. Abby J. Cook.

Toubackery in Senegal: Help us!! Camp Gem Sa Bopp

http://www.abigailjaynecook.blogspot.com/2011/07/help-us-camp-gem-sa-bopp.html

Monday, July 25, 2011. Camp Gem Sa Bopp. Most of the young girls here don't have the support, whether it be emotionally or financially, to attend school. Once a girl starts to grow up they are expected to work around the home and eventually be married. If a family can only send one child: son or daughter to school, there really is no choice. Obviously this is NOT every family situation, but many. PLEASE check out our website below for more information and where you can donate! It's for the girls. My name...

Toubackery in Senegal: January 2011

http://www.abigailjaynecook.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, January 9, 2011. Where is your car? You cannot even imagine the amount of sheep that were at this market day. What people do is come to the djolof, buy a bunch of sheep for a low price, travel back to the cities and make huge profits. Imagine being in that pet store on a hot summer day, without electricity, and you’re locked in a dirty kennel; or a cramped dirty horse stall. Let’s move on to the people on the bus…. Um sir, do you know her real name? What do you mean? 8221; Most of it was in Wolof.

Fear and Loathing in Linguere. A Savage Journey Into the Heart of Senegal. Posted by: Writing Advisor MacAfee. January 3, 2013. Well, everyone, it’s 2013, the year that I return home to America! But… c’est la vie. Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving. -Terry Pratchett. Laquo; I’m on the way! On January 4, 2013.

Fear and Loathing in Linguere. A Savage Journey Into the Heart of Senegal. Posted by: Writing Advisor MacAfee. February 3, 2013. Islamic brotherhoods in Senegal have an annual celebration of the birth of Mohammed, called here a Gammu. The date is pretty flexible, which means that if you want, you can attend multiple Gammus in multiple places. We in the field call this ‘hitting the Gammu Circuit’. I hit it hard. Next up was Gammu Xol Xol! Sisters at Gammu Xol Xol. Baay Birame and I. Laquo; The New Year.

Camp Gëm Sa Bopp. A Peace Corps Senegal Project. It’s that time of year again. The dry winds become hotter and hotter until finally subsiding as fat rain clouds ascend from the South of Senegal. Dry ground gives way to lush green fertility and animals grown lean from months of sparse grazing burst with renewed vitality. And, after months of strategy, organizing, and recruiting, we are almost ready to hold the 2014 Gem Sa Bopp Girls Camp! Its going to be awesome! With $20 dollars, you can provide one of o...

Sarah l'égaré en Senegal. A chronicle of my life as a Peace Corps Volunteer. Saturday, March 8, 2014. International Women’s Day 2014. On the way back to Dakar from Thies today, one of our Peace Corps doctors asked me if I ever thought about everything I’d learned since coming to Senegal. Three years ago when I got off the plane in Dakar for the first time, would I have been able to guess everything that would be in my head today? Ndeye with her oldest son in a photo she. Adam and Eden drove this gal from Utah to Washington is mid April. Meanwhile, in Washington I was being busy in starting my new job! This is what I found:. I had so ma...
