Words and Ideas from My Brain. April 23, 2015. They Don’t Need to be My Books (or Why I’ll Never Teach THE GRAPES OF WRATH Again). I’ve read many books. Most I’ve enjoyed, and some have played a role in defining my character and world-view. And a small few in the latter category have knocked me on my ass. The Grapes of Wrath. 8211;takes a special kind of resilience and stoicism. The Grapes of Wrath. Is a personal one and it doesn’t need to be my students’ experience as well. Words and Ideas from My Brain. My name is Benjamin Cutler, and I was raised on a riverbank. I’m a husband, a father of three, and an English teacher at a small high school in Western North Carolina, where I teach American Literature and Creative Writing. A Bookish Baker - a lifestyle blog about books, baking and being inspired by the outdoors

A healthy goal for 2017. So that’s it. As I write this there are only a few hours left of 2016. Already writing the date, 2016, feels dated, old, so last year. My over-riding goal is to concentrate on my health. Yes, eating healthier, moving more, but also making sure my life is balanced. Because, guess what, if you are sitting at your desk for hours and days at a time, no matter how much you love the work, you’re going to burn out. This will hurt you mentally and physically. An honest review of my year.

A Bookish Blogger

Saturday, November 8, 2014. By Kimberly Willis Holt. This book is definitely one of my favs now! It was such an amazing novel! Even through her struggles, Tiger shows us that there is beauty in everything, you just have to look hard enough. :) I know this review isn't very long, but that just means that I loved it so much that I didn't have to even criticize it. ;). Oh myThis book was just.soooo good! I definitely recommend it! Saturday, September 20, 2014. I loved this book! I loved the characters and h...

Bookish Bluebird

Saturday, October 8, 2016. Dual Review: SEMPRE SEMPRE:REDEMPTION. Confession: it took me a while to figure out what to call this post. I didnt think I should call it a series review since there are other books/novellas in the series (like  Made—. Corrados story [which I la-la-la-loved dearly]). Most of my reviews are quite short too, so calling these mini reviews didnt seem right either hah. So, Im taking a page out of Siiris genius book and doing a dual review! Labels: 4.5 stars. Book one of series.

A Bookish Charm | All things literature

August 15, 2015. Standing at the checkout at the grocery store, I found myself incredibly bored having forgotten both my book and my phone. Most people in such a predicament would probably do one of two things: 1) make small-talk with fellow shoppers or 2) flip idly through the magazines on the racks. Similar to Mr. Darcy, I am unskilled at small-talk and what was I to say? Was holding up (watching her crazy drama is anthropology, okay? So I thought it might be fun (at least to my nerdy self…maybe ...

A Bookish Compulsion

Sunday, March 8, 2015. Review: City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) by Cassandra Clare. Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? Also a Shadowhu...

This is an example of a caption. Saturday, May 16, 2015. Blog Tour: All Played Out (Rusk University #3) by Cora Carmack. May 12, 2015. First person in her family to go to college? CHECK Straight A’s? CHECK On track to graduate early? 8230;yeah, about that…. With just a few weeks until she graduates, Antonella DeLuca’s beginning to worry that maybe she hasn’t had the full college experience.
