Ayasofya | abroadwithliz

https://abroadwithliz.wordpress.com/2013/01/21/ayasofya

A fine WordPress.com site. January 21, 2013. Ayasofya (or as us westerners know it, Hagia Sophia) was, again, one of my favorite places in Turkey. With beautiful architecture and history, it was hard not to fall in love with this beautiful church-turned-mosque. Walking into the outer entrance. At the inside entrance doors, it was already breathtakingly beautiful and huge. The inner entrance step. I love seeing old marble steps that have warped with so many feet. The next thing you see are these large bea...

https://abroadwithliz.wordpress.com/2013/05/03/turkish-consul-to-chicago-visit

A fine WordPress.com site. Turkish Consul to Chicago Visit. May 3, 2013. The Turkish Consul of Chicago,Fatih Yıldız, visited my school (University of Iowa) on Monday to talk about relations between Turkey and the US (Iowa especially). And even when we didn’t speak the same language, I always felt welcomed and it always felt warm, like they really truly cared. The article about his visit is here. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Why YOU Should Travel | abroadwithliz

A fine WordPress.com site. Why YOU Should Travel. May 3, 2013. This blog post is inspired by this article,. Which was posted by the study abroad office of my school. (Sorry no pictures, just my wonderfully written words.). I’m currently a junior in college, I’m at a prime age to travel. I don’t really have any commitments to one location right now (aka no job yet…eek! And this is one expense that will be worth it. One of my favorite quotes is, “The world is a book, and if you don’t travel you...8221; (St...

Things You Might Notice in Turkey | abroadwithliz

https://abroadwithliz.wordpress.com/2013/02/11/things-you-might-notice-in-turkey

A fine WordPress.com site. Things You Might Notice in Turkey. February 11, 2013. I will apologize ahead of time for my terrible translation into how to pronounce it in English… a lot of the vowels are really hard to translate unless you know them from other languages. And there also isn’t really a pattern to this post, sorry again! Talk about cross-cultural communication! The original lyrics are “Shine bright like a diamond,” but what the radio personalities heard was “Çayı bırak o dayı...While I was the...

A continuation of my travel bloggings. September 27, 2013. Many of you may be interested in my views and experience with the protests in Turkey in June. Most of the protesters were simply protecting themselves when they threw back the tear gas cannons that were shot at them. But when another group came into the picture, one thought to be the same group that attacked the American Embassy in Ankara, they would make and attack the police with Molotov cocktail bombs. Abroad with JJ

Tuesday, January 18, 2011. Before I left for America for Christmas vacation I helped the teen girls of my center cook Moldovan Gingerbread cookies. I call them Moldovan Gingerbread cookies because we were lacking certain ingredients that allowed them to brown and also lacked any kind of formal kind cookie cutters. So in traditional Moldovan style we improvised and still had a successful and fun time. The girls reading the directions in Romanian and preparing the ingredients:. Friday, January 14, 2011.

ABROAD WITH LOLA | A Quiet Girls Guide To Traveling Abroad

Unfortunately, the day we were meant to go sky diving the winds were too strong, therefore it was cancelled. I was extremely disappointed but promised myself that one day I would sky dive! We discussed it many many times, until I eventually convinced him it was a good idea! How did I do it? Well, I was lucky enough...
