Searching the past to understand the future. Thursday, September 9, 2010. That's it. I'm done. I'm officially shutting this blog down. And moving it over to TypePad. Excuse my dust while I get the new digs built. It'll be a little while before I have everything in order. It will be a good thing, though. Accidental Historian: Why Hell, Anyway?

http://accidental-historian.blogspot.com/2010/08/why-hell-anyway.html

Searching the past to understand the future. Tuesday, August 31, 2010. Why Hell, Anyway? Failing the Insider Test. Is one of those great blogs that almost never gets updated. That means that I forget that it exists for months on end, then suddenly think, “Hey, I wonder if anything’s been posted? 8221; Today was just such a day. And I discovered a great, if long, post about the morality of god. That was written back at the tail-end of May. But it really got me thinking about something else, a question.

Accidental Historian: Good News and Bad News and Other News

http://accidental-historian.blogspot.com/2010/09/good-news-and-bad-news-and-other-news.html

Searching the past to understand the future. Thursday, September 9, 2010. Good News and Bad News and Other News. So the good news is I’m still blogging. The bad news is that I’m blogging from beyond the grave. The really bad news is that death looks exactly like my regular life. Silver lining: this proves my hypothesis that Texas = Hell. Anyway, we’ve proved yet again that Dennis Markuze is not a threat. But he is massively annoying. Anyway, further bulletins as events warrant…. I get the distinct impres...

Accidental Historian: On Gay Marriage

http://accidental-historian.blogspot.com/2010/08/on-gay-marriage.html

Searching the past to understand the future. Saturday, August 14, 2010. I remember being pissed after that Sunday morning because he basically said that if you weren’t trying to stop abortion you were a bad Christian. I wasn’t trying to stop abortion, but I wasn’t a bad Christian.[1] It just wasn’t my issue. The pastor was a good man. He was a good speaker. He was a good husband and father. I’m going to assume he still is. Any argument against gay marriage, then, has to be an argument from stability.

Bending Towards Justice | Accidental Historian

https://accidentalhistorian.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/bending-towards-justice

Searching the past to understand the future. August 10, 2015. The United States of America is falling apart. Our politicians are corrupt at worst, completely unserious at best, and have turned the nation into a circus. The civil rights and even lives of large swaths of the population are being abridged. Christian leaders have a stranglehold on the public discourse and even the government. We are divided, we are constantly fighting amongst ourselves. The end, surely, is near. America as a nation is an asp...

The Unwelcome Guest: The unappealing vegetables

http://theunwelcomeguest.blogspot.com/2009/09/unappealing-vegetables.html

Lighting candles to a cynical saint. Monday, November 09, 2009. Mark Tidd of Webster, New York, describes an experience from his college days:. On one visit, he exclaimed, "God is so good! I came out of my shack this morning and found a bag full of shoes and clothing on my porch.". That's wonderful, Mr. Roth! We said. "We're happy for you.". You know what's even more wonderful? He asked. "Just yesterday I met some people that could really use them.". Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Unwelcome Guest: October 2009

http://theunwelcomeguest.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Lighting candles to a cynical saint. Friday, October 30, 2009. This generation shall not pass away. A friend of mine is convinced that by the middle of the century, fundamentalist Christianity in North America will be on the brink of extinction. I couldn't agree more. The list goes on. And it pains us to see how how fundamentalist Christians - the modern day Pharisees - are murdering God, all over again. Thursday, October 15, 2009. The most exhausting thing in life is being insincere.". Life can be hard,...

The Unwelcome Guest: And puts the glory out to hide

http://theunwelcomeguest.blogspot.com/2009/08/and-puts-glory-out-to-hide.html

Lighting candles to a cynical saint. Tuesday, October 13, 2009. And puts the glory out to hide. I watched a fairly remarkable lightning display from the balcony of my apartment last night. Similar to you, one of the few things that make me believe in God is the wonders of the celestial world. The dance of the stars and the clouds that cover them like a warm, dangerous blanket - the depth of existence; human isolation is only the beginning when one realizes how tiny they are. http://thewoefulbudgie.blogspot.com/2009/10/i-couldnt-make-this-stuff-up-if-i-tried.html

Pecking desperately at the pink plastic mirror. Tuesday, October 6, 2009. I Couldn't Make This Stuff Up If I Tried. Well, nobody wants to get married anymore, except those gays and lesbians. Hmm Do you have something to substantiate that claim? Some sort of statistic, or report? Oh, your father saw something. On ESPN. About the lesbians. Ahh Yep. Always them lesbians on ESPN, wanting to get married. A deep, fretful silence from Grandma. Dad tries in vain to contain his chortling.). I just miss the good.
