Gardening and family life by the sea. Cerulean blue skies, family days and ping-pong. August 12, 2015. I’ve been feeling a bit ‘meh’ for the last few days and it seems I’m not alone. CJ’s post at Above the River. We had a lovely afternoon at Broadstairs (after some school uniform shopping) sunshine, sandy beach and ice creams. It’s a charming Victorian seaside town and well worth a visit. I made Jane Brocket’s Lemon Chiffon Cake (from her book Vintage Cakes. For dad’s birthday cake. It’s ...We were in Lo...

Gardening and family life by the sea. Lavender blue (dilly dilly). July 22, 2015. July 22, 2015. Not too far away and went over to see which species would suit us best. There are lots… Lots and lots of lovely lavenders but we plumped for a hardy one ‘Miss Dawnderry’, an. With dark purple-blue flowers. I planted the plug lavenders late last summer and they stayed the same size all through the autumn, over the winter and this is what they looked like this spring. Still very small…. Gardening and family life by the sea. In a Vase on Monday and a garden catch-up. September 26, 2016. September 26, 2016. Instead of my usual approach to IaVoM (when I pick a bunch of whatever’s flowering well and a few sprigs of greenery and plonk them in a suitable vase), this week I’d like to show you. You can see all the tiny seeds at the end of the curled stems. I’m joining in as usual with Cathy at Rambling in the Garden. Another favourite plant. I love this and. Nasturium ‘Jewel Charry Rose&#...

Gardening and family life by the sea. My head for heights. October 29, 2016. It’s the end of British Summertime tonight and although I’m not looking forward to the evenings getting darker, I am looking forward to that extra hour in the morning. I’ll leave you with this little snapshot of my family life: I popped into the kitchen earlier (about an hour after dinner) to find my eldest standing there munching chocolate biscuits. ‘What are you up to? Gardening and family life by the sea. A few happy things for a Friday. July 17, 2015. July 17, 2015. A mug of mid-morning coffee is definitely one of my daily pleasures. Proper coffee from the filter machine, fairly strong with a dash of milk, no sugar. Ahh, that’s better. Oh, and some toast. To keep me going until lunchtime. Do you remember the pot-bound agapanthus that we cut into quarters and planted in the border? Finally, here’s Cassie, worn-out after a good, long walk this morning. She...Oops I&...

End of Month View. Other People’s Gardens. End of Month View. Other People’s Gardens. 5 December 2016 /. The garden’s fresh flowers are well and truly over, and last week’s offerings from the hedgerows are still decorating the flat; thanks to the fact that lichened sticks and dried seedheads have a rather longer shelf-life than flowers, my arrangements will probably last around the house until the first spring bulbs, with frequent changes of location to keep things looking fresh. Lately – some bush...

Countryside Tales: Friday

Friday, 14 August 2015. Needless to say he fell back asleep once I'd managed to get him back into bed and lying the right way round, and I had an hour of wakeful rain-listening instead. I couldn't decide whether the sound of rain falling on leaves or against window panes was my favourite. For the foxes because I think it's the same or very similar fabric she's been using to make lovely Teddys with this week. In fact, I am thinking she might have inspired me to have a go at something stuffed myself. I wal...

As the Head Gardener I must admit that I chiefly see the weeds but I am training myself to sit and enjoy the flowers every day. 31 July 2015 at 00:32. Nevertheless, your garden still looks beautiful. 3 August 2015 at 20:03. There is much to do after years when I worked full time but it has given me much pleasure this year. Mine have...

A colourful life: June 2015
https://christinascolourfullive.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Monday, 29 June 2015. Anyway, I really wanted to write about my latest sewing adventure. I bought a really nice jersey fabric for a summer dress. I have never sewn with knit fabrics and was a little apprehensive. To practice, I bought some cheap bright green light weight t-shirt jersey to have a go and maybe even end up with something wearable. I used a tried and trusted pattern, the Sailor Top by Fancy Tiger Crafts. Which I have used before here. But a little less natural. To sum my experience with jerse...

Sunday, 26 July 2015. A psychedelic summer dress. I finished my psychedelic summer dress before we went on holiday and chances are that I am wearing it as you read this. Scheduling is great! I am now enjoying the hot sun in Cornwall. Or I might be huddled up in the caravan, woolly socks and all. The guess is yours. I found the pattern via the Curvy Sewing Collective. Where curvy women review a great many patterns. The pattern is The Lady Skater Dress. Here is the top stitched neckband on the outside.

I'm keeping it simple this week as I have a new sophisticated laptop that seems to have a mind of its own and a very twitchy cursor. Basically it does not want to give me. Any clues as to how to work it. I feel like I'm blogging from scratch and that the internet has advanced. Five years during my seven days absence. This week I've continued to work my way through my 'bottom-of-the-list' list. After finishing. H is for Hawk. I've launched straight into an 80s classic,. The Bonfire of the Vanities. Why I ...

Epiphany – any moment of great or sudden revelation; a sudden intuitive perception of or insight into the reality or essential meaning of something, usually initiated by some, simple, homely, or commonplace occurrence or experience. Would we find a smaller house that we liked? Could we cope with the upheaval? Yet we knew radical action was needed. 26 October 2012 at 17:03. 27 October 2012 at 20:57. Thanks - a great title. I will check it out :). 13 November 2012 at 06:30. Im so happy I checked your blog&...

Today we had a celebratory birthday meal for my mum-in-law. As we sat down there was a heavy shower of hailstones but it was soon followed by bright sunshine. Hail British Summer Time! I haven't taken many photos recently but this weekend I carried my camera around with me and found myself captivated by the beauty of spring and family gathering. I really enjoyed getting lost behind the lens once more. A wonderfully relaxing evening last night with singer songwriter Chris Helme. A few interesting reads I'...

A Coastal Gardener's Journal
A Coastal Gardener's Journal. April 8, 2015. Beware of Killer Plants. While it is always best, in my opinion, to plant organic in your food garden, not everyone in the U.S. has access to quality garden stores. If you live in one of these Garden-Store Deserts (meaning there are no quality garden stores) and grow vegetables and herbs from conventional nursery plants I want to caution you on one thing: neonicotinoids. So what are neonicotinoids? I believe it is very irresponsible for any garden shop to sell...

Atlantic Coastal Kayaker
In the summer of 2014, Justine Curgenven and Sarah Outen traversed the Aleutian Islands, completing what was the greatest, as yet undone, technical sea kayak expedition in the world. The film is spectacular, full of high adventure, a touching friendship, and some of the most magnificent scenery on earth . - Jon Turk. A satisfied reader says, I have been getting Atlantic Coastal Kayaker since Day 1. It is the closest thing to perfection.
