Across Canada

A blog to journal my cycling trip across Canada. Incidentally I have been called "the least convincing Canadian ever". Which is an acheivement in itself. Friday, July 07, 2006. Roblin to Dauphin Beach. Well rested we wake ready for the day only for tragedy to strike. One of the tent poles breaks and has to be repaired with Duct Tape. As the pole carried I am now rather articulated and have to be careful about fine manuvering. Posted by Across Canada at 16:01. Links to this post. Day 30 (43 miles). Back o...

Across Canada: Passes and tunnels

http://acrosscanada.blogspot.com/2006/06/passes-and-tunnels.html

A blog to journal my cycling trip across Canada. Incidentally I have been called "the least convincing Canadian ever". Which is an acheivement in itself. Thursday, June 22, 2006. Canyon Hot Spring to Golden. Day 12 (78 miles). The day doesn't start well when Trep loses spoke number two barely a couple of miles out of the campsite. After much consideration we decide to carry on over Rogers Pass into Golden rather than return to Revelstoke in search of a bike shop. Posted by Across Canada at 12:42. My webp...

A blog to journal my cycling trip across Canada. Incidentally I have been called "the least convincing Canadian ever". Which is an acheivement in itself. Friday, July 07, 2006. Day 25 (44 miles). We hang about in Saskatoon in the morning looking for a replacement tire for me. My rear Continental Gatorskin has given up the ghost and been replaced by a folding racing slick. Alas the term 700/28 means little to the bike merchants here and I leave empty handed. Posted by Across Canada at 15:21. That's a grea...

Trepid Explorer: May 2015

http://trepidexplorer.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

20 years of being "Not Last". Sunday, May 31, 2015. I spent a whole day on Saturday bezzing around the Peak with Claire Smith. Enjoyed every minute and turned myself inside out a few times. As ever I am reminded of how much I like riding with Norton Wheelers and now know how easy it is to get to the Saturday ride from our new house. Swimming an entire 2.5 laps of the lake was a real bonus. Felt ok for the first time this year. I had a rest day today but looking forward to being back on it tomorrow. I wan...

20 years of being "Not Last". Tuesday, December 30, 2014. Festive Mountain Bike ride with Mr Hopkins. On 30th December I took the rare move of diverting away from my usual stomping ground and riding a bike with another person other than my incredibly patient husband. I only know one person as patient as TSK and that is Mr Hopkins. We chose a route which would be sufficiently scenic yet achievable given the snowy frozen conditions, taken from my 1993 guide book of West Yorkshire. Soon our friends were bac...

Trepid Explorer: An unexpected delight

http://trepidexplorer.blogspot.com/2015/08/an-unexpected-delight.html

20 years of being "Not Last". Monday, August 10, 2015. Yesterday, I went out for a walk with my mum and dad. It was a beautiful walk but it took us rather a long time to do and so, with chatting in the garden included, we were probably in baking sunshine for the best part of 6 hours. When they left I was feeling a combination of depression and hyperactivity. So lovely to see them and they are doing OK but things were worrying me and I had an evening of sulking - up until about midnight. In order to then ...

Trepid Explorer: August 2015

http://trepidexplorer.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

20 years of being "Not Last". Monday, August 31, 2015. How to write about a day that involved so many other people? Well, in truth I daren't and don't have the time. There were 6 teams at the Sheffield Tri club camp - each with 4 members. I was teamed up with H (the organiser of the teams), Matt and Andrew - all competent athletes in their own right but everyone was out to have fun and get some exercise. And we all thought, that's me, that's what I'll be like, that's what I'll do. I rolled around both bu...

Trepid Explorer: March 2015

http://trepidexplorer.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

20 years of being "Not Last". Tuesday, March 24, 2015. Joy in Life Without Ironman. So I started this morning paralysed by indecision - to do a running race? Or go for a swim? I suddenly realised that I am really lucky to be a multi sport athlete. Most people only get to decide whether to train or not. I get a choice of what to train at. I can't do anything by halves though and I worked on the garden until it got dark. Monday, March 16, 2015. Three weeks have passed since Grizedale. Testament to the ...

20 years of being "Not Last". Thursday, February 26, 2015. Sun Salutations in the Rain. Yoga today followed by a 4km run with a workmates who made me run faster cos I didn't want to slow him down too much. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Rest day from training today but a bloody productive day on site with a lovely drive home from Hazel Grove. Wish I felt a bit more recovered. Tuesday, February 24, 2015. Today I rode to yoga on my way to work. What a great way to start the day. Monday, February 23, 2015.

http://trepidexplorer.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

20 years of being "Not Last". Friday, July 31, 2015. Scottish Adventure / Cafe Holiday 2015. We left work late as TSK had to finish his last day at his old job. He will return to a new one. By the time we reached the A66 we are tired and ready to stop – somewhere on the way, but where? It was such a nice evening we pitched the Tentipi without its inner for the first time. We layed the Thermarests straight on the ground because it was so dry. And it lashed it down. We survived dry and we cooked breakf...

20 years of being "Not Last". Tuesday, August 04, 2015. Trep has been censored. The nasty people at FB have realised Trepid Explorer is not a normal human and wish to reinstate my account as boring old me. if they even accept that I am who i say I am. I wish to get some of my photos and posts back so I may return for a while as boring old me. However, i am unlikely to trust them with my friendship again. Off to print out 10 years of blog posts. ACROSS CALEDONIA - landscapes of Scotland

ACROSS CALEDONIA - landscapes of Scotland. Saturday, 16 January 2016. As 2016 arrived, I enjoyed the first walk of the New Year in Fort. It is an easy walk along River Nevis with impressive vistas- high peaks loom over walkers here. Starting from a small car park at the end of tarmac road in Glen. I followed a nice, at places rugged path through woodland. Looking back from the trail , the ridge of Ben Nevis. Water of Nevis and An Steall waterfall. If one wants to cross the stream to get close to waterfal...

Across Canada Art

Wednesday, 19 March 2014. Hello; I'm just getting to update some posts now. But here are some. Enjoy. I have been thrilled with the results that people in our group have been creating. It is amazing the effect of the images, but also, the bond it creates when we respond to anothers image. The images are not in isolation - but connected. It is really neat. If you hear a voice within you say 'you cannot paint,' then by all means paint, and that voice will be silenced." - Vincent Van Gogh. From Laura F.:.
