Road (back) to the Queen K. Monday, June 28, 2010. Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired.". George S. Patton, U.S. Army General, 1912 Olympian. Sunday, June 20, 2010. Ending the first week. Wednesday, June 16, 2010. Back on the wagon. Sunday, June 6, 2010. I wan...

http://scottjoe.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Road (back) to the Queen K. Friday, April 23, 2010. This is a brief article I wrote for the Training Bible newsletter for May. It is something that I believe is a key to any successful race and a requirement for any athlete of any level! 1 Write down the WHENs? When will you wake-up, arrive to race site, and warm-up. 2 Write down the WHATs? 3 Write down the WHEREs? Where is the packet pickup, where is the bike check-in, where do I leave my gear bags race morning, where will I eat during race week, etc.

A Cycling (*and* Running! Saturday, February 26, 2011. From Love To Rust and Back Again. Bottom bracket shell got the worst of it. The city's a flood, and our love turns to rust. We're beaten and blown by the wind, trampled in dust.". Where The Streets Have No Name. Love turning to rust, I like that. I suppose it is also some sort of love that is necessary to try and remove a little rust from being so. well, beaten and blown by the wind, and rain, and the passing of time. Love is patient, love is kind.

Velo-mania: December 2010

A Cycling (*and* Running! Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Swish, Swish, Swish. Temperate, Mediterranean climate notwithstanding, let’s just say the ethno-cultural three-ring circus of my childhood was more inclined toward images of dancing skeletons than racing skeletons, sombreros and tequila vice than hat tricks on ice, and perhaps more in tune with. Oh, now I’ve fallen, and like the old lady in that classic TV commercial …“I can’t get up! 8221; (wow, those TV images do get into our brains! So that was m...

Shameless plug) suggests I view this video promo of a "gravel" metric century ridden on rural, mostly unpaved roads in DeKalb County, Illinois. Hmm, intriguing. looks like fun. Here's the first of 2 clips:. Looks like the good folks over at North Central Cyclery. Have once again teamed up with Chicago's Half Acre Cycling. How primitive will I get today?

Road (back) to the Queen K. Saturday, May 15, 2010. 1 Become a realist: Yes, it happened you’re hurt and you will miss some time while you heal. There is nothing that you can do to prevent that. As soon as you recognize that fact, you can begin the process of healing. Much like acceptance is a step in the grieving process, be truthful to yourself and the healing process. Don’t drive yourself crazy moping around the house all day with no purpose. Friday, May 7, 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Velo-mania: September 2011
http://velo-mania.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
A Cycling (*and* Running! Sunday, September 18, 2011. Only in Chicago, or Endor. Today marked my return to consistent racing for the 2011 season. My road season was pretty much a wash with poor training, undisciplined nutrition, and lackluster sleep. Meh, there's always next year! But for THIS year, there's still plenty of cyclocross left. And finished putting on the rest of my team kit. I managed to secure a decent starting spot by warming up (loitering? And there he goes, eager to secure the hole shot!

A Cycling (*and* Running! Sunday, October 23, 2011. Well, half the schedule in the 2011 Chicago Cyclocross Cup season's been raced, and I'm still struggling along near the bottom of the standings, including a couple of ignominious last-place finishes (quickly tells self that "at least you finished, and did not quit." Whatever it takes to lessen the bruises on the ego.) Not making excuses, just pointing out the facts. Sloppy, but getting it done. Slog, slog, slog. It was published in ROAD. Birthplace of b...
