Adventures of the Alaskan Panda. Even though I’ve been to Japan twice and have seen so many things as a result of those experiences, I still have so much more I’d like to see there! I’ve only lived in the Chukoku area, specifically Nagoya City in the Aichi Prefecture and Gifu City/Mizuho City in the Gifu Prefecture. To be able to see other areas not in the central area of Japan would be amazing! I’m so excited to get over there to start teaching! Climb Mt. Fuji. Lake Hamana Flower Festa. Go to Universal ...

Adventures of the Alaskan Panda. Day of Departure: Hello Japan! Hamamatsu City at Last! Tokyo Orientation Day One and Two. August 4, 2015. Oh boy, it’s been a fast two days! I’m posting both days in one post, so I hope this isn’t too long! I crashed at 10 on Sunday (the day we came in) and managed to stay asleep until 5:30 or so. Even though I couldn’t fall back asleep, I enjoyed the comfy bed! The tables had quite the variety! Potatoes, eggs, salad, toast and rolls, juice and lots of fruit! A great pres...

Adventures of the Alaskan Panda. Tokyo Orientation Day One and Two →. Day of Departure: Hello Japan! August 3, 2015. We were warned that we might have to run to our Tokyo flight in Seattle, but by some awesome luck, our gate was only three gates down from the one we arrived in. The two hour layover went by pretty quickly; we all put our luggage in a corner and took turns watching it while we all went off and did our own things; one of the perks of traveling in a group! Before I knew it, we were landing!

Alright, here’s an update about what’s been going down since I received my placement! After panicking my FBI check would be delayed or denied, it arrived at the Anchorage Consular this week! And my IRS forms showing I don’t have to pay income tax in Japan for two years also came in as well! It’s coming down to the wire! They sound like a great bunch of people. Everyone on...

An ALT's Journey through Interac. May 14, 2015. JET has been on point this year. I don’t know why people like to rag on JET in particular about long wait times, etc. when they’ve been great so far! Get it together, Interac…. Anyway, super short post but I just wanted to note that I got my JET placement email today! I will be placed in…. Fukuoka-ken. Here I thought that the would place me in Akita and that would be the worst, but. I Did It :(. 9 thoughts on “ JET Placement! May 14, 2015 at 6:21 pm. I̵...
Exchange Rates! – Hello Nihon!
https://hellonihon.wordpress.com/2015/04/21/exchange-rates
An ALT's Journey through Interac. April 21, 2015. I have been so pumped lately because of the exchange rate. Thank you, Abenomics, for weakening the yen. As of current, the average rate is 120 yen to the dollar. That’s a whopping 20% more (on average). When I went to Japan for study abroad, the exchange rate was about 80 yen to the dollar. That was painful… 😦. It’s kind of sketchy (it’s just a window in Waikiki) but there are. But anyway, this exchange rate is great, and anyone heading to Japan soon, I&...

An ALT's Journey through Interac. I Did It :(. May 21, 2015. May 21, 2015. Yes, Interac is super problematic (and I complain about them all the time). But if I continue with JET, I know there will be just as many problems down the line. I don’t think many of you care, but just in case, I’ve included my reasoning below:. I can’t apply twice with two different sponsors. Honestly, I could probably make a similar list as to why it would be more beneficial for me to go with JET, but oh well! Thank you for sha...

- About the Comic
And welcome to The Adventures of the 19XX. When I was a kid I loved Ducktales, and I especially loved the episodes where they looked for historical treasures or ran into William Drakespeare. So I grew up with a sense of history being a great adventure waiting to be discovered. That’s where this comic comes in, it’s like history, but with all the remotely interesting parts turned up to 11! So here’s the synopsis…. Somewhere in the 20th century…. Not long after the end of the Great War. This book collects ...

Adventures of the Alaskan Panda. Hamamatsu City at Last! August 9, 2015. Sorry for such long break since my last post. I’ve been go go go since I arrived in Japan and it’s been even more so since I arrived in my new home. I’ll try to run it down as best I can without making as long of a post as my last one. We boarded the Shinkansen (bullet train) headed to Hamamatsu City; the ride was about 1.5 hours. It was nice out, so the view of the surrounding area was beautiful! I even got a few pictures! I get to...

Banking on Adventure
The three great essentials to achieve anything worth while are: Hard work, Stick-to-itiveness, and Common sense. -Thomas A. Edison. Saturday, February 22, 2014. It’s time. I think I can finally write a follow-up on our house. It was more emotionally difficult (if not also physically) to walk out of that building than I ever imagined. One quick comic remains:.
