The EBS Authenticator Word List
http://www.ae5d.com/ebs.html
The EBS Authenticator Word List. And other old EBS documents. New material was added to Section Four on April 21, 2007. The Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) was a national plan for dissemination of urgent messages to the public in case of a national emergency, or life-threatening local emergency, such as a tornado. It started out as Conelrad. EBS replaced Conelrad in 1963. EBS was subsequently replaced by the Emergency Alert System (EAS) in 1997. Section One: The teletype machines themselves. Was sent wi...
The 72nd Floor
http://www.ae5d.com/72.html
Recently I had the extraordinary opportunity to visit the 72nd floor of the Bank of America building in downtown Dallas. Since there isn't the slightest chance that the average person could ever visit this site, I'm posting the pictures here as a public service. Another broadcast engineer recently pointed out that the facilities pictured here are actually on the 73rd floor. The elevator stops at 72, and then there's another flight of stairs up to a (locked) door on the 73rd floor. I don't know...This ...
Pictures of Loran-C Raymondville
http://www.ae5d.com/loran/loran.html
Loran-C Raymondville, 7980-X / 9610-Y. These are pictures I took on a visit to the Loran-C station in Raymondville, Texas, in 1984. This is the outside of the building. A typical military building, nothing fancy, but it's well maintained. Chain — by listening between the transmitted pulses of this station! In ham radio circles, this is called "full QSK". The transmitter is all solid state, and consists of a number of large modules, each contributing power which is combined into the antenna feed. The base...
The 216 Browser-safe colors
http://www.ae5d.com/216.html
The 216 Browser-Safe Colors. When I began writing HTML pages, I was surprised to learn that there is a relatively small set of 216 colors which are all but guaranteed to be accurately reproduced on any web browser. These are sometimes called the 216 Browser-Safe Colors, also known as The Safety Colors. They are shown in the first of three charts below with the names given them by the people at Visibone. Makers of many clever charts and other materials to assist the HTML designer with color selection.
Channel 37 -- The Last Empty Channel
http://www.ae5d.com/37
The Last Empty Channel. The band of frequencies from 608 to 614 MHz is commonly known as TV Channel 37, but it has never been occupied by any over-the-air television station in North America. On an internet page about the old DuMont network,. Channel 37 is listed as once having been used by WGOV-TV, Valdosta, Georgia; however, FCC records do not indicate that "WGOV" has ever been assigned to a television station. Illustration: UHF-TV Activity in the United States. In the same period, the total number of ...

AE5CA | Just another WordPress site
Just another WordPress site. Restore your WRT54G to factory firmware. Every once in a while, it is necessary to restore the Factory Firmware on a Linksys node. With the End of Support for the Linksys nodes coming up, one great use for you old nodes is as an access point. This can be done with the Factory firmware. Determine which model of WRT54G you have including the version number. This is done flipping the router over and looking at the attached label. The next step is to go to www.linksys.com. Set yo...
